Medica is seeking a Senior Production Engineer to serve as a hands-on technical resource within Enterprise Business Platform Operations & Engineering (EBPOE), focused on the reliability, engineering, automation, and operational maturity of HealthRules and other enterprise business platforms and supporting services.

Defining problems, conducting and narrowing research, analyzing criteria, finding, analyzing and applying solutions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities

Enterprise Platform Engineering, Reliability & Technical Ownership

Serve as a senior technical owner for EBPOE-supported enterprise platforms, with primary responsibility for HealthRules and supporting application, server, integration, and processing components. Maintain production stability, availability, performance, recoverability, and operational health. Lead troubleshooting of complex production issues, including application errors, connectivity and network-related issues, integration failures, processing errors, performance degradation, and infrastructure or database dependencies.

Production Support, Incident, Problem & Vendor Management

Provide senior technical leadership for EBPOE production support and ServiceNow incident, request, and problem processes. Triage issues to determine the responsible application, configuration, infrastructure, integration, database, processing, or other enterprise dependency. Work directly with HealthEdge and other vendors to investigate and resolve issues. Manage vendor cases and escalations through resolution, coordinate vendor fixes and recommendations, and ensure recurring issues are addressed through root cause analysis, problem management, automation, or engineering backlog work.

Platform Delivery, Configuration, Change & Lifecycle Management

Provide technical leadership for platform implementations, upgrades, migrations, integrations, configuration changes, releases, and lifecycle activities. Partner with application and configuration teams, infrastructure, cloud, database, security, architecture, business stakeholders, HealthEdge, and other vendors to plan and execute changes safely. Assess technical dependencies and production impact; support testing, deployment, validation, rollback planning, and post-implementation monitoring. Ensure platforms have appropriate monitoring, support procedures, documentation, recovery processes, and operational ownership before entering production.

Automation, Technical Leadership & Operational Maturity

Develop automation and engineering solutions that reduce manual operational effort, improve reliability, and shorten incident recovery time. Strengthen observability through actionable logging, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and health checks. Establish repeatable operational standards, runbooks, troubleshooting procedures, and engineering patterns across EBPOE-supported platforms. Mentor engineers and analysts, lead knowledge transfer for platforms transitioning into EBPOE ownership, identify technical debt and lifecycle risks, and provide technical input to roadmap and capacity planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field.
  • 7+ years of work experience beyond degree.
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise applications and production platforms in complex environments.
  • Proficiency with SQL and Linux administration/troubleshooting, including analysis of application, system, integration, and database-related issues.
  • Experience with IT service management processes, including incident, problem, change, request, and vendor case management.
  • Experience troubleshooting application connectivity, interfaces and integrations, application errors, and production processing issues.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot complex production issues, isolate root cause, and drive resolution across application, infrastructure, database, network, integration, and vendor boundaries.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and translating findings into permanent corrective actions, monitoring improvements, automation, and engineering backlog work.
  • Strong technical knowledge of enterprise application operations, application servers, Linux systems, SQL and database concepts, integrations, and production support practices.
  • Experience working directly with application vendors, such as HealthEdge and Optum, to diagnose defects, coordinate maintenance, manage support cases, and implement vendor-recommended fixes.
  • Ability to evaluate application and configuration changes for operational risk, dependencies, supportability, and production readiness, and to successfully drive and support application upgrade processes.
  • Strong understanding of incident, problem, change, release, and service-management practices, including effective documentation and communication.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings, risks, decisions, and tradeoffs clearly to engineers, analysts, business partners, leadership, and vendors.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring without formal people-management responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively in a regulated healthcare environment and understand the importance of secure handling of PHI and production systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with application support, configuration coordination, troubleshooting, upgrades, maintenance, and vendor support.
  • Experience supporting enterprise platforms such as InterSystems, HealthRules, integration/connector platforms, CES, EasyGroup, or comparable business applications.
  • Experience supporting billing, enrollment, claims, or other healthcare insurance business processes.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, observability tooling, CI/CD, or infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture, platform modernization, technical lifecycle planning, or migration programs.
  • Experience creating operational runbooks, support models, knowledge-transfer materials, and technical standards.
