The Department of Specialty Care Associates is supporting the delivery and continued expansion of specialty care services across UCI Health and its affiliated hospitals and ambulatory locations.

The Inpatient Specialty Care portfolio includes hospital-based physician and APP programs requiring coordinated workforce planning, scheduling, recruitment, onboarding, , professional fee oversight, and operational performance management.

The Inpatient Service Line Manager works collaboratively with medical directors, hospital and health system leadership, clinical operations, finance, human resources, medical staff offices, credentialing, contracting, revenue cycle, and other support departments to develop and sustain effective inpatient specialty care programs.

The position supports strategic growth of UCI Health's inpatient specialty care footprint through development of sustainable staffing models, provider recruitment, financial and operational analysis, performance monitoring, and implementation of new clinical programs and services.


Your Role on the Team

Under the direction of the Specialty Care Associates Administrator for UCI Health, the Inpatient Service Line Manager is responsible for the administrative and operational management of assigned hospital-based specialty care programs within the UCI Department of Specialty Care Associates.

The incumbent works in close partnership with leadership, Specialty Care Medical Directors, hospital leadership, physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and other UCI Health stakeholders to support the development, implementation, and ongoing management of inpatient clinical programs.

Responsibilities include oversight of physician and APP workforce planning, provider scheduling and coverage models, recruitment and onboarding, payroll and compensation administration, operational and financial performance, professional fee performance, provider productivity, and program growth. The position supports existing and newly developing inpatient service lines and plays a key role in ensuring appropriate clinical coverage, operational efficiency, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and alignment with UCI Health strategic priorities.

The incumbent independently analyzes complex operational issues, develops recommendations, implements process improvements, and supports the expansion and integration of hospital-based specialty services across the UCI Health system.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.
  • Ability to establish, interact and maintain an effective working relationship with not only physicians, but the associated UCI Faculty, staff, School of Medicine UCI Health administrative leaders, support functions and departments.
  • Demonstrated skill in the management of physician resources, clinical space utilization, and financial resources through development of physician operational plans and appropriate financial analysis which are clear, concise, logical and appropriate for the audience.
  • Demonstrated software skills to develop and utilize various analytic and reporting tools relative to physician utilization, clinical quality metrics and patient satisfaction.
  • Assist the Medical Director in the analysis and implementation of projects to maximize metrics of clinical quality, billing proficiency, clinical coding proficiency, patient satisfaction and cost of care.
  • Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem-solving and customer service.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact favorably and collaboratively with all stakeholders, whether they be UCI Physicians, staff, administrators, support personnel or patients.
  • BA/BS or advanced degree in Public Administration, Healthcare Administration Business, Human Resources, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in providing advanced management/leadership in an academic healthcare or clinical environment, preferably in a higher education institution.
  • Cost accounting and finance administration minimum 2 years of experience.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of payroll functionality, applicable financial analysis and other payroll related functionality.
  • Possess skills in computer-based tools such as spreadsheets analysis and database management.
  • Familiarity with EPIC Systems EHR and EPIC reporting functionality.
