Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel
The Omni Ft. Lauderdale Hotel is a 29-story hotel, located at 1950 Eisenhower Blvd, and connected directly to the Broward County Convention. The property offers 801 guest rooms and suites, multiple restaurants, a vibrant rooftop bar, a sprawling pool, spa, and fitness center. The hotel has over 120,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, including a grand ballroom, junior ballroom, 25 breakout rooms and pre-function meeting space with waterfront views.
Job Purpose: The Loss Prevention Investigator is responsible for supporting the safety, security, and integrity of hotel operations through professional investigations, surveillance review, documentation, and fact-finding. The Investigator works closely with Loss Prevention leadership, Human Resources, hotel management, and operational departments to investigate associate incidents, missing property, workplace injuries, policy concerns, and other matters requiring detailed review.
The Investigator is expected to conduct investigations objectively, discreetly, and professionally while maintaining confidentiality and accurate documentation.
Essential Job Functions:
Investigations & Fact-Finding
* Conduct thorough investigations involving missing or reported stolen property, associate-related incidents, workplace concerns, and other matters assigned by Loss Prevention leadership, ASC, and/or Executive Committee.
* Meet with associates, supervisors, managers, and other individuals who may have relevant information regarding an investigation.
* Conduct professional fact-finding interviews and document statements and relevant information.
* Establish timelines of events by reviewing reports, surveillance footage, access records, witness information, and other available documentation.
* Identify inconsistencies, additional investigative leads, and information requiring follow-up.
* Prepare clear, factual, and detailed investigative reports summarizing findings.
* Maintain objectivity throughout investigations and avoid conclusions unsupported by available evidence.
* Escalate significant findings to the Assistant Director and Director of Loss Prevention.
CCTV & Surveillance Review
* Review hotel surveillance footage in support of Loss Prevention, Human Resources, and management investigations.
* Conduct detailed video reviews to establish timelines, identify involved individuals, verify reported activity, and preserve relevant footage.
* Document camera locations, dates, times, observations, and other information necessary to support investigative findings.
* Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding surveillance footage and investigative information.
* Assist Loss Prevention leadership with identifying surveillance coverage gaps or other observations discovered during investigations.
Associate Injury Investigations
* Investigate associate workplace injuries and incidents in coordination with Human Resources and Loss Prevention leadership.
* Respond to or inspect incident locations when appropriate and document scene conditions.
* Obtain relevant statements and identify potential witnesses.
* Review available surveillance footage related to the incident.
* Photograph and document relevant conditions when appropriate.
* Assist in determining the sequence of events and potential contributing factors without making unsupported assumptions regarding fault.
* Identify safety concerns or recurring conditions and communicate findings to Loss Prevention leadership and appropriate departments.
* Prepare supporting investigative documentation for workplace injury cases.
Missing Property Investigations
* Investigate reports involving missing guest, associate, hotel, or company property.
* Review incident reports, Lost & Found records, key/access information, surveillance footage, and other available records.
* Interview associates who worked in or accessed relevant areas.
* Coordinate with operational departments when additional information is required.
* Document investigative steps and findings from initial report through closure or referral to Loss Prevention leadership.
* Identify patterns involving repeated missing-property reports and bring potential trends to the attention of Loss Prevention leadership.
Bag Checks & Locker Audits
* Conduct randomized or otherwise authorized associate bag/package inspections in accordance with hotel policy and established procedures.
* Ensure inspections are conducted consistently, professionally, respectfully, and without discrimination.
* Document irregularities and immediately report significant findings to Loss Prevention leadership.
* Participate in associate locker audits in coordination with Human Resources.
* Ensure locker inspections and audits are conducted only with appropriate authorization and according to hotel and Human Resources procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality regarding information or property discovered during authorized inspections.
Human Resources Support
* Provide investigative assistance to Human Resources when requested.
* Review surveillance footage related to workplace investigations, policy concerns, associate complaints, or other HR matters.
* Provide factual observations and documentation without offering conclusions outside the Investigator's authority.
* Participate in investigative meetings and interviews when requested by Human Resources or Loss Prevention leadership.
* Protect confidential associate and investigative information and limit disclosure to individuals with an appropriate business need to know.
Documentation & Case Management
* Maintain organized investigative files and supporting documentation.
* Process and review Loss Prevention incident reports for completeness, accuracy, clarity, supporting documentation, and necessary investigative follow-up.
* Maintain investigation and incident tracking records, as appropriate, documenting case status, required follow-up, investigative progress, resolution, guest satisfaction, and other applicable outcome information.
* Maintain and update charts or other tracking tools to identify patterns and trends involving incidents, missing property, injuries, investigations, guest concerns, or other Loss Prevention activity, and bring significant or recurring trends to the attention of Loss Prevention leadership.
* Identify incomplete reports, discrepancies, outstanding investigative items, and matters requiring additional investigation, evidence preservation, or escalation to Loss Prevention leadership, and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
* Prepare professional reports that clearly distinguish reported information, witness statements, video observations, physical evidence, investigative findings, and any conclusions supported by the available evidence.
* Preserve relevant surveillance footage, physical evidence, records, and other investigative materials according to hotel procedures, including appropriate documentation of their collection and disposition.
* Track open investigations and incident reports requiring additional action, and conduct appropriate follow-up until completed, closed, or transferred.
* Maintain confidentiality of investigative records and sensitive hotel information.
* Provide investigative updates to the Assistant Director and Director of Loss Prevention.
Loss Prevention Operations
The Investigator may also:
* Assist Loss Prevention leadership with investigations involving guest rooms, public areas, meeting and convention space, food and beverage outlets, loading/receiving areas, associate areas, and other hotel facilities.
* Assist with significant guest incidents when investigative follow-up is required.
* Conduct guest follow-up calls related to incidents and investigations when appropriate, including obtaining or clarifying information, providing appropriate status updates, and documenting the contact.
* Ensure guest follow-up communications remain factual and do not include commitments, admissions, investigative conclusions, or representations outside the Investigator's authority.
* Identify trends involving theft, missing property, workplace injuries, policy violations, or suspicious activity.
* Coordinate investigative efforts with other hotel departments while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
* Assist with special investigations or security initiatives as directed by Loss Prevention leadership.
* Support Loss Prevention operations during significant incidents or emergencies when necessary.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in hotel security, loss prevention, investigations, law enforcement, asset protection, or a related field preferred.
* Hotel Loss Prevention experience strongly preferred.
* Experience conducting interviews or workplace investigations preferred.
* Experience reviewing CCTV/surveillance systems preferred.
* Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies and patterns.
* Ability to remain objective and professional when investigating sensitive matters.
* Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
* Strong organizational and time-management skills.
* Ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
* Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn hotel security, reporting, surveillance, and access-control systems.
Professional Expectations
* The Loss Prevention Investigator must demonstrate a high level of integrity, discretion, professionalism, and impartiality. The position may have access to confidential associate information, surveillance footage, investigative records, and sensitive hotel information.
* Information obtained through an investigation must only be shared with authorized individuals and must never be discussed unnecessarily with associates, guests, or other individuals.
* The Investigator must conduct all interviews, inspections, surveillance reviews, and investigative activities consistently and professionally while following Omni policies, Human Resources procedures, and applicable laws.
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
* Ability to walk and inspect a large hotel property, including guest-room floors, public spaces, back-of-house areas, meeting spaces, and service areas.
* Ability to sit for extended periods while conducting detailed surveillance reviews.
* Ability to respond to different areas of the property as investigative needs arise.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule based on hotel operations and investigative needs, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professional judgment in a 24-hour hotel environment.
