Project Coordinator, CGND/Phatnani Lab

The Center for Genomics of Neurodegenerative Disease (CGND)/Phatnani Lab is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Project Coordinator. The Project Coordinator will assist with day-to-day management of complex scientific collaborations and program-wide activities for the Phatnani Lab, a partnership between Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and the CGND. Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent will assist with the management of a large, integrated contract/grant funded program consisting of a set of interconnected activities. In conjunction with the Director, the incumbent will assist with program/project planning, preparation of grant applications and progress reports. In addition, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for tracking individual action items, deadlines, grant goals and
progress.
Key Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Assistance with draft preparation, review and revision of grants and scientific writing.

    • Coordinates with and supports Sponsored Research staff to ensure timely, accurate application submission.
    • Edits manuscripts, fellowship applications, research progress reports and other research communications materials written by faculty and postdoctoral fellows.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with administrative and scientific contacts across New York Genome Center, Columbia University, and other stakeholders.


  • Draft, proofread and edit written materials (letters, proposals, annual NIH reports, foundation reports, briefing materials, and promotional pieces).
  • Track NIH and non-NIH reporting deadlines to ensure adequate reporting and compliance per funder guidelines.
  • Provide advice on grantsmanship, editorial support and standardized language for administrative sections.
  • Organize reporting, plan meetings, and provide updates to the director. Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings as assigned.
  • Analyze grant funding trends to identify growing programs, opportunities for increased funding, and areas in need of greater development.
  • Assist with strategy development to expand pipelines of grant-based donors for lab operations, programs, and initiatives.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring that projects remain within scope, and on schedule.
  • Assist Director with the analysis of project progress and ensure appropriate allocation of efforts to achieve the goals of the lab.
  • Partner with the Director to target process improvement efforts to enhance workflow and financial performance.
  • Maintain reports and metrics for administrative, planning, quality improvement and regulatory responses.
  • Develop, recommend, and manage the operating budget and ensure that the lab operates within allocated funds and/or the strategic realities of the research projects. Achieve planned annual operating budget and productivity benchmark targets as assigned.
  • Develop, establish, and implement policies and procedures for efficient lab operations.

Qualifications:


  • B.A./B.S. degree.
  • Two or more years of experience in an assistant role in large academic or corporate settings.
  • Experience in coordinating multiple teams.
  • Experience in coordinating strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel essential (experience with databases and
  • other programs, such as PowerPoint, Keynote, Photoshop, and Illustrator, desirable)

Work Arrangement:

  • The incumbent in this position will need to spend time at both sites - NYGC and CUIMC.

Salary:



  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and educational attainment.
  • Range: $75,000 - $85,000

About the New York Genome Center:
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's), and cancer. Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with twelve leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region and beyond, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions. Essential to our collaborative work is an outstanding faculty, whose members typically hold a joint appointment at NYGC and a partner university.
