THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking an enthusiastic Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher - Corrections Education, Masonry who is ready to motivate learners and spark determination. Teaching inside a secure setting, you will guide students as they build hands-on masonry skills that can open doors to future opportunities. Your instruction will support inmates as they push forward, discover new abilities, and make meaningful strides toward personal growth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position teaches masonry and related construction skills to students in a corrections education setting. The work supports student growth by offering structured lessons and hands-on learning. As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher - Corrections Education, Masonry, you will perform the following duties:

  • Curriculum Adaptation: Determine adjustments to meet student learning needs
  • Instruction Delivery: Teach masonry and construction trade skills through classroom and shop activities
  • Record Management: Maintain education records, attendance, inventory, and payroll information
  • Classroom Oversight: Monitor student behavior and enforce rules to promote learning
  • Tool Control: Issue, track, and report on tools and materials used during instruction
  • Operational Support: Assist with other assigned duties and contribute input to procedures and curriculum development

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Masonry. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of or be eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be in possession of or be eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical ; or
  • You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
