JOB SUMMARY
This role will ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of organizational data. The incumbent will assist in the development, implementation, and support of a comprehensive data governance framework and related processes at UT Southwestern. This includes collaboration with data stewards, and stakeholders, management of data assets, monitoring compliance and performance, and enabling data-driven decision-making through proper governance practices. The responsibilities are dynamic and extend beyond routine tasks, including representing UTSW at UT System governance committees, coordinating efforts across the UT System, and managing complex administrative components such as procurement processes, master data management (MDM) solution oversight, and regulatory compliance activities. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Our ideal candidate has one to three years of paid full-time professional experience.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in administrative, regulatory, data management, business administration, or related field.

Preferred

  • Experience - one to three years of paid full time professional experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)

JOB DUTIES

  • Works with leadership to assist in designing and implementing a comprehensive data governance framework to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, consistency, and security.
  • Collaborate with data stewards and stakeholders to establish and maintain governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collects and analyzes data, identifies trends and patterns, and generates reports and recommends to stakeholders, data modeling and designing data architectures to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of information, developing and enhancing data warehouses, managing back-end transaction and data processing.
  • Monitor data quality and integrity, identifying and resolving issues in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to data handling and management, recommending mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws.
  • Develop and tracks metrics related to data quality, governance activities, and compliance to assess progress and effectiveness.
  • Maintain an inventory of data assets, including classification by sensitivity and criticality, to support effective governance.
  • Act as a liaison between IT, Information Security, data stewards, and academic, research, and clinical units to promote data governance principles and practices.
  • Facilitate communication and training sessions to ensure adoption of data governance policies and standards.
  • Support a community of practice (COP) for data governance, promoting knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Support and facilitate processes related to Data Use Agreements (DUA), Data Use and Sharing Agreements (DUSA), and Data Transfer Agreements (DTA) to ensure compliance and effective management of data sharing
  • Provides input for internal governance meetings and may chair data governance meetings.
  • Travel to sites such as UT System governance meetings at discretion of leadership, and coordinate across Texas Department or Information Resources (DIR) including after hours coordinating efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate-level computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of principle practices of data services and program management.
  • Knowledge of government relations or government affairs.
  • Strong critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in designing public-facing education materials that are detailed, strategic, and engaging such as PowerPoint presentations, fact sheets, and other collateral materials.
  • Familiarity with data privacy and compliance regulations such as HIPPA, FERPA, and GDPR.
