DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Office of Student Accountability, Growth, and Education (SAGE) leads and manages the UC San Diego non-academic student conduct, student compliance, and restorative justice programs. SAGE collaborates with the undergraduate Colleges, residential areas, Student Affairs and Campus Life, graduate and professional schools, faculty and academic departments, Intercollegiate Athletics, and greater University community with regard to student conduct and student welfare matters. SAGE is responsible for the development, revision, and coordination of student conduct related policies, including the UC Policy on Student Conduct and Discipline, UC San Diego Student Conduct Procedures, Medical Amnesty Program, and University Alcohol Policy. SAGE facilitates ongoing comprehensive student conduct, student compliance, and restorative justice training for staff, students, and faculty. Additionally, the department develops and maintains comprehensive statistical and narrative data regarding all aspects of processes and procedures and engages in regular assessment of departmental processes.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Associate Director, SAGE the Title IX Hearing Coordinator serves as a resource to the UC San Diego community providing guidance relating to student conduct programs/projects, policies, and procedures. They will facilitate training and workshops for members of the campus community about the non-academic student conduct process and programs. Under the guidance of the Associate Director, the incumbent will participate in the adjudication process for student conduct cases of limited complexity, interview witnesses and write up findings, and make recommendations for sanctions based on precedence.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

  • Understanding of the developmental and educational context in which the student conduct process is administered and managed.

  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

  • Proficient skill utilizing Microsoft Office applications including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, power point, and electronic mail .

  • Understanding of University rules and regulations.

  • Strong knowledge in federal and state regulations related to student conduct, including FERPA, Clery Act and Title IX.

  • Interpersonal skills. Superb interpersonal skills to successfully interact with a variety of people and offices, at all levels of the university community.

  • Skills in service orientation, active listening, critical thinking.

  • Skilled in promoting positive working relationships with constituents and ability to independently use sound judgment and discretion when interacting with individuals from the campus and the community.

  • Abilities in problem identification, reasoning.

  • Excellent organizational abilities, project management skills, and analytical and problem-solving skills, including synthesis of information, consideration of alternatives, ability to prioritize and decide among alternative actions, based on partial information. Possess skill to independently interpret and follow written policies and protocols when resolving issues.

  • Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication and organization skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems in work assignment areas, and identify and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and an understanding of the importance of protecting the privacy of records and correspondence.

  • Must possess a high comfort level and hands-on experience with the latest social media tools for higher education including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms.

  • Ability to facilitate training and workshops for students.

  • Strong skills in researching, analyzing, organizing, and synthesizing information from multiple sources to prepare sound and relevant reports and proposals. Skill in independently identifying, compiling, interpreting, and evaluating data and materials from various sources, including extracting and analyzing information from large databases.

  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques.
