    Short Term Disability Case Specialist
    Location: Remote - EST
    Schedule/Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM EST
    Pay: $30.50 per hour

    Position Overview
    The Short Term Disability Case Specialist manages routine disability claims and makes timely, accurate determinations regarding benefit eligibility and payment. This role reviews policy provisions, duration guidelines, clinical recommendations, and supporting documentation while communicating with claimants, employers, medical professionals, and other parties as needed. The position requires strong analytical and decision-making skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

    Job Responsibilities



    • Review short term disability claims and make final determinations regarding benefit approval, denial, or further review.
    • Approve claim payments within established authority and applicable guidelines.
    • Review duration guidelines and recommendations from clinical or vocational resources to determine appropriate claim disposition.
    • Complete strategy assessments and ensure claims are adjudicated accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines.
    • Interpret policy provisions and apply consistent claims practices in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
    • Obtain supporting documentation needed to substantiate disability claims.
    • Communicate with claimants, employers, physicians, attorneys, and other resources by telephone and other appropriate methods.
    • Maintain accurate documentation while handling confidential information.
    • Provide support to other claims staff and participate in special projects or assignments as business needs require.
    • Work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
    • Meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.


    Job Requirements



    • 1+ year of customer service or financial services experience.
    • Strong mathematical skills for calculations and claim payments.
    • Strong judgment and decision-making skills when applying policy provisions.
    • Ability to understand and interpret legal and medical terminology.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organization, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
    • Strong client service orientation and solution-focused approach.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
    • Ability to work autonomously while maintaining effective team collaboration.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Ability to learn and effectively use multiple computer applications.
    • Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
    • Reliable and predictable attendance on a full-time basis.
    • Ability to work remotely while maintaining required Eastern Time Zone hours.


    Education



    • Associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.


    Work Experience



    • 1+ year of customer service or financial services experience required.
    • Short term disability or claims management experience preferred.
