Posting Summary
Rutgers School of Nursing located in Newark, NJ is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Nursing Science Department. Under the direction of the Assistant Professor, the Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to health equity research in the intersection of public health and nursing. The work focuses on the social and structural determinants of health with a focus on HIV prevention, substance use, and health disparities among multiply marginalized populations, including LGBTQIA+ populations. More specifically, we use a network-science lens and implementation science approaches in our work. Postdoctoral Associate will be involved with data collection, secondary data analysis, the preparation of manuscripts to contribute towards the scientific literature, and conference presentation. There will be opportunities for advancing biostatistical skills, professional development, and mentorship from renowned faculty. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to advance their research skills, engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, and contribute to the development of impactful nursing science and health equity initiatives.

Duties include:

  • Research Activities: Lead and/or collaborate on innovative research projects in networks and nursing science,specifically in HIV prevention, substance use, and health disparities among multiply marginalized populationsusing multilevel methods including social network analysis, neighborhood-level research, and implementationscience.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Design and implement data collection strategies, including qualitative andquantitative methods, surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Analyze data using appropriate statistical or thematicanalysis methods.
  • Dissemination of Findings: Present research findings at national and international conferences, workshops,and seminars. Prepare research reports, academic papers, and other scientific publications.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students, research assistants, andother trainees. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including community-based organizations and otherfaculty members

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ph.D. in Nursing, Public Health, Health Services Research, Social Sciences, or a related interdisciplinary field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in research methods, preferably with experience in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research designs with underserved or multiply marginalized populations.
  • Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Experience with R data analysis software is required (proficiency is preferred) and experience with Dedoose, Cytoscape, and/or ArcGIS is highly desirable although not required.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, including at least one peer-reviewed publication or manuscript under review.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write research papers, grant applications, and present to diverse audiences. Ability to collect primary data either in-person or via Zoom in community-based settings.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment, with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Commitment to ethical research practices and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Applicants in All But Degree status will be considered for interviewing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with health disparities topics including HIV prevention, substance use, and health disparities among multiply marginalized populations, and research approaches including social network analysis, neighborhood level research, and implementation science.
  • Familiarity with federal and private funding mechanisms for nursing, health disparities, or substance use research.
  • RN experience in a U.S. healthcare system is highly valued.
  • Current RN license or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey is highly valued.
