Nobody notices a fire alarm until the day it matters. Your job is to make sure it works on that day. At the University of Virginia, that means research labs, classrooms, student and faculty housing, and a Health System, all depending on systems you have tested, verified, and kept ready. The Fire & Life Safety Department of UVA Facilities Management is seeking a Fire Systems Technician to be a core part of our inspection and testing program. This is a role for a technician who takes pride in doing the work to the letter of the code, and who has the electrical and mechanical depth to fix what the test turns up. You will spend most of your time inspecting and testing fire protection systems to NFPA requirements, and the rest putting your hands on the equipment: diagnosing, repairing, installing, and calibrating. You will work with minimal supervision, decide how best to carry out your work orders, and turn to your supervisor on the larger and more complex jobs. You will keep students, staff, patients, and visitors safe by keeping the university's fire protection systems ready. What You'll Do: Inspection & Testing (the heart of the role):
