Title: Weld Expediter

Company: Global Power Components - www.globalpowercomponents.com

Location: Milwaukee, WI (onsite 5-days/week)

Hire Type: Temp-to-Hire (3+ months)

Overview:

Global Power Components is seeking a highly organized and proactive Weld Expediter to support our Welding Department and help keep production moving efficiently. This position serves as a key link between Welding, Engineering, Materials, and Production. The Weld Expediter will make sure upcoming jobs have the correct paperwork, drawings, revisions, and materials ready before they reach the production floor. They will also troubleshoot missing parts, coordinate engineering questions and revision changes, and resolve job-readiness issues that could delay production. The goal of this position is simple: remove production roadblocks so Weld Supervisors and Weld Leads can stay focused on managing the floor and keeping welders productive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather, organize, and review job paperwork, drawings, work orders, and other production documentation before jobs are released to the welding floor.
  • Verify that weld jobs are production-ready and that required materials, parts, and documentation are available.
  • Track down missing parts and materials for jobs currently in production as well as upcoming scheduled work.
  • Work closely with Engineering to address drawing questions, revision changes, discrepancies, and other technical issues affecting production.
  • Ensure updated drawings and engineering revisions are communicated to the appropriate Weld Supervisors, Leads, and production personnel.
  • Identify potential shortages, documentation problems, or other production roadblocks before they impact the welding schedule.
  • Follow up with Materials, Production, Engineering, and other departments to resolve open issues quickly.
  • Monitor upcoming welding jobs and proactively confirm they are staged and ready for production.
  • Help prioritize and communicate urgent issues affecting active production jobs.
  • Maintain accurate job documentation and track outstanding parts, revisions, and production issues through resolution.
  • Support Weld Supervisors and Weld Leads by handling administrative and coordination issues that would otherwise pull them away from the production floor.
  • Maintain strong communication between office/support departments and shop-floor leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, welding/fabrication, production control, material coordination, expediting, or a similar production-support role preferred.
  • Experience working in a welding, fabrication, sheet metal, or heavy manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, engineering drawings, part numbers, and revision levels.
  • Comfortable working with production paperwork, work orders, bills of material, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to proactively follow up with multiple departments and drive open issues to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Materials, Supervisors, Leads, and shop-floor employees.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of urgency in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience working with ERP/MRP or other manufacturing systems preferred.
  • Must be comfortable spending time both at a computer and directly on the manufacturing floor.
