About the Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 20 categorical residents per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC) is a 220-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the inpatient training facility for this program. In September 2021, Dell Med's IM program deployed a resident staffed team to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) Hospital. SMCA is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Center. SMCA also has a Level IV Trama Center.

About the Position

The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Internal Medicine is seeking exceptional, internal medicine-trained, board-certied physicians to join our Division of Hospital Medicine as academic hospitalists in clinical and educational programs at Seton Family of Hospitals/Ascension Texas. The position is for full-time nocturnists or evening coverage only. Candidates with experience and a preference for these types of shifts are encouraged to apply but all interested are welcome.

Our hospitalist division supervises Dell Medical School residents and medical students on inpatient teaching services and also provides non-teaching and surgical co management services at Seton Family of Hospitals/Ascension. Members of our division participate in scholarly activity, faculty development, interprofessional care teams, patient safety reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and evaluation and education of residents and medical students.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree with Board Certication (or Board Eligibility if within 2 years of residency) in Internal Medicine.
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
  • Strong clinical teaching skills.
  • Training and experience in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment with The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School as an Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • Required Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certication.
