Position description

Applied Clinical Informatics Faculty Search

The newly-established UCSF Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) within the Department of Medicine is seeking faculty at all career levels with background, skills, and a history of success in applied clinical informatics research, under the leadership of founding division chief Julia Adler-Milstein. We are open to a broad array of traditional clinical informatics domains as well as population health informatics, public health informatics, and consumer health informatics. Current research domains in the division include: applying AI (including large language models) to real-world care, informatics and medical education, and using informatics to advance healthcare value, diagnostic excellence, health equity, and population health.

Candidates at all ranks are encouraged to apply. Candidates at the associate- and full-professor ranks will require a strong track record of independent research funding, publication, and an ability to foster collaborations with health system partners, industry, policymakers, and/or researchers.

Though these are research-focused positions, clinician-scientists (e.g., MD, DNP, PharmD, DDS) may have clinical opportunities matched to their certification and interest.

Candidates will have access to the robust research eco-system within DoC-IT, the Department of Medicine, and UCSF. DoC-IT is the home of the Center for Clinical Informatics and Improvement Research (CLIIR; https://cliir.ucsf.edu/) that leads pioneering research on how to maximize the impact of digital health on health system performance. The Division also houses UCSF's large Clinical Informatics Fellowship. Lastly, the Division has expertise in, and access to, UCSF Health's system EHR data as well as a strong relationship with the health system to facilitate intervention-based informatics research. Research involving our partner safety net hospital (Zuckerberg San Francisco General) and VA are also possible. For more information on the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation, visit our website at https://docit.ucsf.edu/.

Candidates whose research informs health policy also may become affiliated with the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS), an interdisciplinary organized research unit at UCSF. For more information about IHPS, visit their website at https://healthpolicy.ucsf.edu. Candidates whose research informs computational health science may become affiliated with the Bakar Institute for Computational Health Sciences (BCHSI), another interdisciplinary organized research unit at UCSF. For more information about BCHSI, visit their website at https://bakarinstitute.ucsf.edu/

We strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds or who can make a unique contribution to diversity to apply. Interested applicants for all positions should upload a statement of research (past, current, future), their CV, and a statement of contributions to diversity.

Candidates must possess either a PhD, MD, DNP, PharmD, DDS, or equivalent degree. For clinician-scientists who want their appointment to include clinical practice, MDs must be board certified and eligible for licensure in the State of California. For other clinician-scientists, the requirements associated with performing clinical work will be determined.

Please apply online at: https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF04598. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2022-23/oct-2022-salary-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $104,800-$320,100. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
