Structural Designer / CAD Technician - Mid to Senior Level

Moffatt & Nichol is actively searching for a Structural Designer / CAD Technician to join our Baltimore, MD office located on the Baltimore Harbor waterfront. As the successful new hire, you will design and draft detailed drawings using multiple Computer Aided Design software packages for use in planning, permitting and construction of civil/structural infrastructure projects in the areas of ports and harbors; coastal, environmental, and water resources; urban waterfronts and marinas; transportation highways, bridges, and rail; buildings; inspection and rehabilitation; and energy. The ideal candidate will have significant growth potential in this position.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate drawings for preliminary and detailed design using company standards
  • Transform initial rough designs and mark-ups into finished working documents
  • Draft detailed drawings of structures and installations such as cargo terminals, marinas, wharfs, bulkhead walls and coastal structures (beaches, revetments, breakwaters and jetties)
  • Detailing/design of structural connections and components with concrete reinforcing focus
  • Compute volumes of excavations and fill for dredging and earthmoving projects
  • Assist designers and senior technicians with preparation of engineering drawing packages

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
  • 6 to 15 years of related experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required
  • MicroStation and Civil 3D are strongly preferred; Revit is preferred
  • Good understanding of project workflows
  • Experience with waterfront structural design preferred
  • Knowledge of material properties
  • Understanding and application of CAD standards
  • Good numeracy, geometry and computer skills
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical demands:

Ability to use standard office equipment. Sedentary for a prolonged period of time. Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
