The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School in conjunction with the UT Health Austin are recruiting a full-time academic surgeon to serve is Director of The Abdominal Wall Reconstruction and Core Health Center. This role will lead and develop a comprehensive abdominal wall reconstruction program. The candidate must be board-certified or board-eligible in general surgery and have completed a fellowship with a focus on abdominal wall reconstruction. About Dell Medical School As part of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation's leading research universities, the Dell Medical School pursues innovation in the redesign of healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and programs in interdisciplinary and inter-professional education. It is the fifth medical school in the UT System and the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has already been made to enable the development and success of the Dell Medical School including now the planning for two additional hospital towers which will create the University of Texas at Austin Medical Center. The School is partnering closely with the community and regional healthcare providers and payers to provide new models for health promotion, healthcare delivery, and clinical care for the community's entire population. About the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care is comprised of faculty in broad specialties (anesthesiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and urology) with a focus on delivering outstanding care to the community. About the position The ideal candidate will have requisite skills to perform both basic and complex abdominal wall surgeries as well as a track record of leadership. The candidate will lead surgeons and establish the abdominal wall program within UT Health Austin. We seek individuals with excellent clinical skills, a passion for education, potential for scholarly contributions to join a dynamic department in an innovative and growing medical school. The individual should have interest in developing an ambitious abdominal wall practice at UT Health Austin, the clinical practice of Dell Medical School, with intention to become a local and regional referral center with a national impact. The program has already hired a graduating fellow Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Surgeon who will start in September 2025. Opportunities abound for collaborative research within Dell Med and departments throughout The University of Texas at Austin. Since this is a leadership position the candidate must be eligible for the rank of Associate or Professor. Candidates exiting fellowship will not be considered. While not a requirement for the position, candidates who have an interest in applying for research funding and or currently hold research funding are encouraged to apply. Essential Functions:
