The Cardiac Surgery Advanced Practice Provider operates under general supervision and in accordance with APP standardized procedures/protocol: As an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant), you will exercise independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the nurse practitioner or physician assistant licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for APPs. This position is eligible for a $20,000 Sign-On Bonus! Advanced Practice Providers with at least two years of experience in cardiovascular surgery or critical care are eligible to receive a $20,000 sign on bonus. Accepting the bonus requires a 2 year employment agreement. Responsibilities include:
- Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging, and other pertinent data. Review's patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family.
- Evaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy.
- Assumes clinical management for the critically ill cardiovascular patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice.
- Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
- Participates in clinical research/data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty.
- Provides formal/informal clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge.
- Work schedule: 3-4 shifts/week with an expectation of 3-4 nights per month and 1-2 weekends per month.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
- Board Certified Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Maintains necessary CME requirements.
- Preferably at least 1 year of experience in cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, general surgery, cardiology, or critical care.
- ACLS Certification
- Valid, or ability to obtain, DEA
