POSITION SUMMARY

Performs basic cleaning duties to the interior and exterior of Authority buses and services with fuel, oil and water.

Qualifications

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Drives buses to fueling bay and services with fuel, oil and water.
  • Records amount of fuel and oil dispensed.
  • Drives bus through mechanical washing machine, and washes front/back bus exterior using long handled brushes and hose.
  • Completes and affixes Defective Bus Tickets to buses in need of repair and drives bus to designated bay area.
  • Sweeps, dusts, washes, debugs and disinfects interior of bus.
  • Checks tire air pressure manually and reports low pressure readings.
  • Enters bus data and control readings into the Maintenance Manager Information System (MMIS) system upon completion of tasks.
  • Sweeps and applies oil absorbent compound to bay floors and pits.
  • Cleans garage offices, washrooms and lunchrooms.
  • Loads and unloads materials and supplies from trucks.
  • Completes daily worksheet and prepares written reports as necessary.
  • Services Authority trucks and automobiles with fuel, oil and water.
  • Makes road calls to service and/or replace defective buses.
  • Dips measuring stick into fuel storage tanks to determine fuel level and water content.
  • Operates a vehicular floor scrubbing machine and a pay loader.
  • Transfers buses to different garages.
  • Affixes decals and informational stickers in buses.
  • May be required to electrostatically clean bus interiors, and or safely operate an E-Mist device.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



  • Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration.
  • Required to submit to respirator use for medical evaluations
  • Must have or obtain a valid State of Illinois "CDL" driver's license with the required "P" endorsement and "B" classification.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Must have strength for standing while servicing buses, sweeping floors, fueling buses, walking to and from buses, sitting while driving buses and operating scrubber, lifting supplies, motor doors, salt bags up to 100 lbs., carrying various supplies, , oil absorbent compound, pushing two wheel cars, brooms, oil drums, scraper, shovel and pulling bus doors, and hoses.
  • Must be able to climb pit stairs, bus steps, onto a pay loader, ladders, balance on wet, oily floors, and steps.
  • Must be able to stoop to check tires, belts, fuel buses, check fluids and hoses, kneeling to check tire pressure, crouch and crawl to sweep drivers' area, and check tires
  • Must be able to reach while performing servicing procedures, to affix decals, handle tire gauge, fuel pumps, brooms, brushes and other equipment, finger to inspect parts, entering data into MMIS System and feeling by tapping tires and check hoses.
  • Must be able to speak as to discuss procedures and alternative servicing methods, and to hear concerning work orders and instructions, alarms, tapping tires, announcements, approaching buses, etc.
  • Must be able to see near and far, for posted signs, checking air pressure, reading work sheets; dangerous situations in the work area, bus numbers and color vision for safety coded products, lights on doors, etc.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES



  • Working knowledge of acceptable bus servicing methods and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Authority safety regulations when driving and servicing vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of the MMIS system.
  • Skills necessary to operate Authority buses.
  • Skills required to utilize bus servicing equipment.


WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Environmental conditions depend on location. At some locations total operations are inside, while others it is outside, duties include road calls.
  • Exposed to extreme cold when doing road calls for bus repairs - winter.
  • Exposed to extreme heat when doing road calls for bus repairs - summer.
  • Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions when washing buses, other vehicles.
  • Exposed to noise and vibrations when running engines and pay loader.
  • Exposed to mechanical hazards when checking bus engines, electrical hazards when replacing light bulbs on buses, bus wiring, burns when checking oil and water, flammable fluids, hot engine parts, explosives from aerosol spray cans, hot radiators and fuel, chemical when using cleaning solutions, debug solutions and heights on pit stairs and ladders.
  • Exposed to atmospheric conditions such as fumes from bus exhaust systems, diesel fumes, odors from cleaning solutions, disinfectants, dust when sweeping floors, mist from automatic bus washer unit, and gases from fueling cars.

  • General office equipment and bus servicing equipment.
  • Brooms, mop and general cleaning solutions

Rate to be determined by applicant's entered service date and service date in union jurisdiction of this classification.
