We are actively looking for a Rail Engineer to join our Rail team. As part of the Rail Group, the Rail Engineer manages project tasks of rail transportation projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage rail related design projects from concept to final design (final PS&E)
  • Oversee specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Performs Second Round QA/QC of other team members work
  • Field evaluation lead for Crossing Diagnostics (sometimes as only M&N (client) representative present
  • Review schedule, cost variances, and assist with developing and implementing recommendations for corrective action.
  • Will serve as a task manager on rail and transit related projects and lead engineering staff for all required submittal phases
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Coordinate the design and management of projects involving transportation in railroad and rail transit facilities and property.
  • Coordinate meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Develops and maintains project summary updates with client

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; required
  • EIT or FE required
  • 4-7+ years of experience in rail/transit engineering
  • MicroStation / GEOPAK or AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience required
  • Microsoft Office software experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record
  • Experience with AREMA, Class 1 railroad, and/or commuter rail/transit agency design criteria and standards
  • OpenRoad / OpenRail design software experience, preferred
  • Experience working with Class 1 railroads, preferred
  • PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months, preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
