Job Title: Shift Supervisor

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Program Supervisor

Schedule: FT, Varies
Supervises: Program Assistants

Rate of Pay: $23/hour

Closing Date: 11/23/2024

Function: The Shift Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations for temporary housing facilities. The primary responsibility of this position is providing leadership and supervision to the staff, volunteers, and participants during the evening and overnight, including training, safety, policies and procedures, and personnel related items. The shift supervisor is a representative of The Salvation Army, at all assigned and appropriate community meetings and activities. The individual in this position will seek insights and understanding of the people we serve, to determine the needs we may address and to aid people in changing the pattern of their lives to function more effectively in society.

Duties and Responsibilities:




  1. Assist the program leadership in the day-to-day operations of the site.
  2. Provide direct oversight to the overnight staff, volunteers, and participants, including training, safety, policies and procedures, HR and personnel related items, and scheduling, bringing items of concern to the attention of the administrator.
  3. Report any incidents or concerns to program leadership, completing required paperwork and reporting requirements.
  4. Work shifts as outlined in the schedule and when staff are unavailable.
  5. In coordination with the Program Supervisor, Program Director and DHQ Social Services staff, maintain record files and correlates reports (including inactive files).
  6. Perform the duties, in accordance with The Salvation Army guidelines, and under direction if other key personnel are absent.
  7. Work to support Case Management programs as directed.
  8. Exercise initiative and judgement in approaching problems and creating realistic solutions.
  9. Maintain on-going professional relationships in all interpersonal contacts (note confidentiality requirements).
  10. Assist program leadership in participating in public relations activities, ensuring that such PR is cleared through the appropriate channels.
  11. Assist program leadership in planning and implementing continuing education for staff.
  12. Provide inside and outside security and safety of the building.
  13. Know and enforce facility rules.
  14. Maintain all program materials in an appropriate manner.
  15. Provide information and referral to social service programs or refer to appropriate staff as needed.
  16. Coordinate cleanup of facility both inside and outside as assigned.
  17. Ensure that all The Salvation Army policies are observed.
  18. Attend all meetings assigned.

Qualification and Education Requirements




  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
  2. Work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities preferred.
