About the Role:

As our new Director of Business Development, you will be joining our dynamic sales team in a fast-paced environment at our Oakland-based HQ. In this role, you will be leading the development and execution of Harmless Harvest's sales strategies with customers. This critical role leads the translation of the organization's strategic vision into clearly articulated direction and collaborates with cross-functional partners to improve sales and partnership. Additionally, you will lead and empower your team of individuals who act as the full sales support structure. You will report directly to our VP of Sales, but work daily with other members of our incredible (and fun!) sales team as well as our cross functional partners in Supply Chain, Innovation and Finance to support the growing needs of our function. The ideal candidate is a team-player, a whiz with numbers, has a good understanding of market trends and how to apply insights to package it all into a clear and actionable strategy!

What you'll be doing:
  • Lead the Business Support team for Sales - You will guide your team to provide support for category vision, customer pricing, trade and promotional planning and other sales support ad hoc requests as necessary.
  • Trade Strategy & Initiatives - This position is responsible for ensuring trade strategy and customer initiatives are in line with internal metrics, are profitable, well organized, and properly executed. This will involve assisting in the development and implementation of annual trade and business strategy as well as trade effectiveness and efficiency plans through the use of our new TPM solution. You will lead the support for sales team in the development and execution of customer trade and business strategies including measuring their effectiveness.
  • Business Analytics - Understands the dynamics between pricing & trade spending for all key customers and knows how to apply syndicated data and analytic tools to create insights & build smart plans, including pricing analysis and understanding market implications across channels.
  • Category Strategy - This position will require input and strategic guidance to provide direction to your direct team as well as the sales team on how to execute the Harmless Harvest category vision to grow sales and increase distribution.
  • Planning Process - This position will lead the planning process including the plan guidance, timeline, templates, and tracking. You will own the preparation and strategic guidance of the annual trade budget for the sales team. Performing annual trade audits of our customers you will identify potential savings opportunities.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration - Collaborating with internal and external resources will be imperative. Aligning sales (Broker, National Accounts and Distributor), finance, marketing, and supply chain around the same business objectives together you will ensure sales executional excellence.
    • Finance: You will work collaboratively with finance to make sure there is proper trade visibility and assist with deduction management and broker commissions.You will also play an integral part in building and managing the Sales SG&A budget
    • Demand Planning you will work very closely with demand planning and sales to scrub and revise our sales forecast to ensure product availability for scheduled promotions.
    • Supply Chain: Serve as the main point of reference for any SKU discontinuances or new item launches. Maintaining and updating the periodic forecasts you will work closely with the Sales and the supply chain team to understand drivers of significant variances.
    • Marketing/shopper marketing: Ensure the strategic sales plans align and compliment with our national and customer marketing activations and well as our shopper marketing plans.
Requirements
What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 Years of Consumer Packaged Goods Industry experience with an understanding of the Foodservice industry and the away from home channels
  • Understanding of promotional methodology and management.
  • Experience in trade or finance support
  • Experience in demand planning or forecasting support
  • Strong understanding and experience using SPINS, Nielsen, IRI and other syndicated data
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrate sound business judgment and confidence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with all levels of personnel within the organization
  • High degree of organization and project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Proven ability to communicate complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels, both in writing and verbally
  • Great People Management skills
  • Flexible 3 days a week at our Oakland HQ office

Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000*

*The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, relevant certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Harmless Harvest which includes comprehensive perks and health benefits.
