24 or 36 hours/week; Dayshift (7a-7:30p) with every 3rd weekend; 1 summer and 1 winter holiday

Minimum pay is $19.00/hour; Benefits eligible

GI/Endo/Renal (H11B):

Our bodies' endocrine system glands produce hormones. When hormones become imbalanced, they can impact a child's health and well-being. Endocrinology at Nationwide Children's Hospital diagnoses and treats a wide range of endocrine system conditions, from adrenal disorders and cystic fibrosis to growth disorders and diabetes.

Types/range of patients seen: Babies to young adults

PCA to patient ratio 1:5-7

PCA Responsibilities: Set up/tear down of rooms, Vital signs, finger sticks/heal sticks for labs, assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs - walking, toileting/diapers, brush teeth, etc), cover Unit Coordinator for breaks (answer phones, call lights, etc), sit as a constant attendant for patients sometimes; stocking.

Responsibilities

    Performs clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Collects, documents, and reports vital signs such as: blood pressure or mean arterial pressure, heights, and weights. Completes screening questions and documents all items into medical record.
  • Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing. Holds, positions patients and assists with procedures. Preps all materials and supplies as needed.
  • Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate. Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit. Acts as a preceptor of orientation and training of other PCA staff.


Qualifications

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure & Experience Required:

Active State Tested Nursing Assistant OR

One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past three years OR

Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program.



Skills:
1. Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
2. Demonstrated basic computer skills.
3. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.
4. Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.

Minimum Physical Requirements:
Occasionally, 1-33% of the time: Climb stairs/ladder; sitting; lifting/carrying 41-60lbs, 61-100lbs, +100lbs with assistance. May come into contact with fumes, gases, vapors, biohazard waste, machinery, and power tools.

Frequently, 34-66% of the time: Squat/kneel; reaching above shoulder; repetitive arm and hand use. Lifting/carrying 40lbs; pushing/pulling 0-61lbs; depth perception-vision. May come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity.

Continuously, 67-100% of the time: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity and hearing acuity. Color vision, seeing far/near.
