What is the opportunity?

This role is part of RBC Bank Risk Management, responsible for the execution of governance frameworks, Risk Appetite, Issues Management, Model Governance, Change Management, and Climate Risk. This role will provide oversight and guidance to the lines of business (LoB)s and oversight functions as it pertains to creation, update and governance of frameworks and Risk Appetite across RBC Bank.

What will you do?

  • Manage the team through the development and maintenance of risk frameworks and Risk Appetite for RBC Bank.
  • Responsible for management of team including priorities and performance goals. Maintains staff by recruiting, onboarding, training, assessing, and promoting employees
  • Annual (and any off cycle) update of RBC Bank's Risk Appetite Statements/ Measures (RAS/RAMs)
    • Perform Review and Challenge of proposals from the first line of defense
    • Provide guidance on risk appetite measures to the second line of defense
    • Preparation of presentations for management and board committees
  • Annual update of the RBC Bank Risk Appetite Framework (RAF), as well as all related policies and procedures
  • Drafting of materials for quarterly meetings with US regulators and assisting with coverage of regulatory exams and requests for information, as well as any MRA remediations
  • Maintain proactive and timely communication within Enterprise Risk Management and across Risk Stipes, subsidiary risk teams, and RBC Bank LoBs & Functions

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Law or other related fields
  • 10+ years previous experience working in a Risk Management role in a Financial Services organization
  • History of developing processes and controls related to Heightened Standards or Reg YY
  • General knowledge of key risk disciplines e.g., enterprise, market, counterparty credit, liquidity risk and Operational Risk

Nice-to-have

  • Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Law or other related fields or Risk Management certification (e.g. FRM)
  • Prior Experience with Risk Appetite and / or risk limits
  • Experience with regulatory relations and remediation
