The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our Ellsworth, ME facility!

Job Summary: Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction and renovation work on facilities and systems.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Performs preventive maintenance, adjustments, and basic repairs on piping and plumbing systems including fixtures, water fountain, bathroom equipment; steam and process hot water systems including control and isolation valves, steam traps, heat exchangers, pumps, and associated equipment; process equipment including tunnel washers, rack washers, bottle washers, autoclaves, bedding dispensers and drying cabinets, water treatment systems, etc. (60%)
  • Participates in major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems. (10%)
  • Provides general clean up, housekeeping, and maintenance of mechanical equipment rooms.(10%)
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned based on the needs of the day. (10%)
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. (10%)

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED and experience as noted above
  • Ability to learn and consistently apply modern precision maintenance techniques for coupled and belt driven equipment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and ordinances related to facilities plumbing, electrical, and renovation tasks performed.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and equipment schematics.
  • Applicable State licenses such as Plumbing, Electrical or HVAC held in high regard.
  • May require occasional shift work including nights, holidays and weekend to support special projects or events.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation is required during which a response time of 45 minutes or less is needed.
  • Will require occasional travel for reasons such as training or project support.
  • Other miscellaneous duties may be required to be performed based on needs of the day.

Pay Range: $20.15 - $33.74
