JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Shilpi Paul and Anirban Paul labs in the Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar at all levels.

The work in the laboratory of Dr. Shilpi Paul is focused on understanding how cells exposed to endogenous or exogenous stressors utilize damage response pathways to maintain genome and proteome integrity; how misregulation of these pathways cause cancer and/or chemotherapy resistance, aging and neurological disorders. Dr. Anirban Paul's interest are in understanding brain function at the level of cell types in the context of development and aging.

Both the labs are collaborating on multiple projects:

1. Investigating the role of Tranlesion synthesis polymerases in aging and Alzheimer's using mice models.

2. Impact of postnatal exposure to xenoestrogens on neuronal developmental trajectories.

3. Using MERSCOPE a high multiplexing, high resolution in situ platform investigating the spatial transcriptomics at single-cell level of DNA damage response pathways in:

(i) Alzheimer's mice models, normal aging and after postnatal exposure to xenoestrogens

(ii) Initiation and progression of breast cancer due to chronic exposure to estrogen metabolites using organoid system.

Both the labs have multiple internal and external collaborative projects ongoing.

Successful postdoctoral scholars would require experience and skills that would include mammalian cell culture techniques, establishing cancer chemotherapy resistance cell lines, develop siRNA and chemotherapy drug delivery systems in cancer cell lines and in vivo mice models, molecular and cell biology techniques, cellular assay development, biochemistry and mice handling. Candidates are expected to be responsible for writing drafts for publications and training graduate students and technical lab staff.

Candidate will be working with a diverse and vibrant collaborative research team comprised of quantitative biologists, biochemists, neuroanatomists, imaging experts, oncologists and geneticists.
