You will be involved in all aspects of existing High Performance Computing (HPC) implementations and administration, both in-house and at other leading institutions, while working with top researchers in their fields to execute state of the art software, with end-goals of transitioning and fielding systems for the U.S. Department of Defense.

In this role you will:

  • Perform physics-based code development, verification, and validation in new and existing business areas, including overset grid methods, unstructured and adaptive grid algorithms, multiphase flows, vehicle maneuvering, fluid-structure interaction, ship hydrodynamics, and turbo-machinery

  • Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art DES/LES and fluid-structure interaction codes

  • Develop and maintain business relationships and programs with other ARL offices, industry, and government

  • Contribute to the Laboratory's commitment to Penn State academic initiatives including (but not limited to) advising graduate students, membership on Graduate Faculty Boards, publications of technical papers/journal articles, and participation at technical conferences

Non-tenure faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Typical requirements include a Master's Degree (or MSc), PhD preferred, in an engineering, information technology, or other related scientific discipline.

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • C++, version control systems, and parallel programming

  • CFD analysis and/or development of CFD algorithms or models

  • Creating computational meshes for use in CFD analyses

  • Effective at producing scientific reports and presenting findings/conclusions resulting from CFD and engineering analyses

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Additional knowledge of commercial codes, especially STAR-CCM+

  • Pointwise and post-processing tools

  • Active government security clearance

Your working location will be hybrid on-site/work from home in State College, PA, depending on project requirements. Domestic and international travel will occasionally be required.

ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.

You will be subject to a government security investigation, and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

ARL is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion; we believe this is central to our success as a Department of Defense designated University Affiliated Research Center (UARC).
