Overview of the Readiness Institute:

The Readiness Institute at Penn State is a Penn State Outreach initiative that creates personalized pathways to success for every learner. We believe that community and future readiness is achieved when learners - regardless of their zip code, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ability level -beable to develop the skills, attitudes, and values needed to design and lead in matters personal, professional, and public.

About this role:

We are currently looking for a project assistant to support the year-round programming of the Readiness Institute. Working approximately 10 hours per month, the Readiness Institute Project Assistant will work under the direction of the Readiness Institute program manager to execute a variety of year-round workshops (in-person, hybrid, and virtual) and support the needs of Readiness Institute learners and families.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Help students set goals and improve academic, social, and community readiness

  • Serve as both lead and support facilitator, depending on the activity

  • Maintain a professional attitude at all times

  • Adhere to all organizational and university site policies and procedures

  • Oversee and support learners of all ages during onsite, offsite, and virtual programming

  • Support Readiness Institute Summer Program learners and help them navigate the transition from high school to their post-secondary pathway

  • Maintain a safe environment for all participants, in accordance with Penn State policies and CDC Covid-19 guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with high school students

  • Have experience working with and respect for students from diverse backgrounds, and experience with multicultural conflict resolution

  • Are passionate about education and helping equip students with skills for future success

  • Demonstrate creativity and problem-solving skills

  • Are patient and supportive with students and colleagues

  • Possess excellent communication skills

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form

  • FBI Criminal Background Check
