The Aviation Academy of Lane Community College invites applications for one or more part-time Flight Instructor positions.

  • Beyond the required education and experience, instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.
  • This is an application pool posting for 2024-2025. The assigned location for this position is located at the Eugene Airport in Eugene, Oregon.

  • Our application is used to determine your initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.
  • Part-time Faculty Flight Instruction positions will be paid based on relevant experience and education in concurrence with the Faculty Union Contract Part 26.5 Flight Instructors.
  • Eligible part-time Aviation Faculty Classroom instructors will be paid based on Faculty Union Contract article 30.
  • Starting range for part-time faculty is Step 1 - Step 10, see our Part-time Faculty Salary Schedule in our Part-time Faculty Payroll Information section.
  • The Faculty part-time benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability and paid sick leave.

Required Education:
FAA Certificates & Ratings as noted:


  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with: Airplane Single Engine Land; Instrument Airplane rating.


AND

  • FAA Flight Instructor Certificate.
Required Experience:
Minimum 6 months flight experience in the last 2 years.
Licensure or Certification Requirements


  • FAA 1st or 2nd Class Medical Certificate

  • Special Requirements

    • Copies of all FAA-issued certificates & ratings and FAA Aviation Medical Certificate required.
    • Originals to be brought to interview.
    • If selected for an interview a log book and all licenses will need to be provided.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS


Preferred Education


  • FAA Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII), airplane multi-engine land, Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI).

  • FAA Ground Instructor Certificate Advanced and Instrument.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior teaching experience under Part 141 regulations with FAA-approved Training Course Outline.
  • Flight Instructor experience under Part 61 with successful completion of 80% of ten or more students recommended for certification.
  • Logged Pilot-in-command (PIC) time in a Cessna 152.
  • Logged Pilot-in-command (PIC) time in a Piper Warrior II.
  • Logged Pilot-in-command (PIC) time in a Piper Arrow.
  • Logged Pilot-in-command (PIC) time in a Piper Seminole.
  • Experience operating a Garmin GTN650 nav/comm.
  • Familiarity of Eugene airport surface environment and practice areas.
  • Experience flying in the Willamette Valley.
  • Experience operating in Class D and Class C airports.
  • Familiarity with Lane Aviation Academy policies and weather minimums.
  • Familiarity with Lane Aviation Academy Training Course Outlines (TCO).

Position Purpose:
To provide high quality flight instruction under Part 61 FAA regulations for the Aviation Academy.

Faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality learning experience for all Lane Community College students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of the teacher of record and facilitator of learning.
Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate and maintain accurate records of student progress and provide appropriate and timely feedback to students regarding performance
  • Continually evaluate and assess student outcomes through appropriate assessment tools/methods; actively utilize results to inform improvements at a program and course level, including assessing and enhancing multicultural and diversity frameworks
  • Faculty with teaching duties are responsible for evaluating student achievement, of clearly identified learning outcomes, consistent with core ability outcomes; meet accreditation requirements
  • Deliver academically sound, challenging and creative lessons
  • Keep required departmental records
  • Adhere to college/departmental/divisional policies/procedure
  • Communicate effectively with aviation academy students and staff, both verbally and in written form
  • Work with students from diverse cultural, economic, education, and ethnic backgrounds to fulfill academic goals
  • Professionally represent the Aviation Academy
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students

Support student learning through activities that include

  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college and community, as specified in the College Online Policy and Procedure System
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory

Curriculum Delivery

  • Provide high-quality classroom instruction
  • Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
  • Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
  • Incorporate college values into curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
  • Confer with students on course materials
  • Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats.

Online Teaching and Student Support

  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Provide timely response to student inquiries
  • Ensure that all materials created comply with College Policies and Procedures for technology and accessibility, and applicable accessibility laws
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online.
