Summary of Job Duties:The Research Technologist, is housed in the Department of Psychiatry. The incumbent will be responsible for executing research activities under the direction of Principal Investigator Dr. Melissa Zielinski. Duties include but are not limited to: implement research and project protocols; recruit participants; create and maintain databases; initiate and maintain human subject approvals under the general direction of the PI; and provide other support as needed. Successful candidate will lead and/or work closely with interdisciplinary staff/faculty/and student research team members.

Willingness to undertake regular local, in-state travel (rarely, but occasionally, overnight) is a requirement of the position. Willingness to work variable hours to meet the needs of assigned projects and participants is also required (e.g., nights and weekends). Outstanding organizational skills are essential. Exquisite attention to detail; the ability to easily build rapport with people from a wide variety of backgrounds; outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, particularly given the community aspect of the planned work; and the ability to work both autonomously and within a team are all essential for this position. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology plus two (2) years of experience in research laboratory testing and analysis required.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Human subjects research experience

Knowledge, Skills & Activities:

  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite at a high level of proficiency is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and sensitively with incarcerated individuals.
  • Must be able to drive for in-state travel.
  • Preferred knowledge of human subjects' behavioral research. Experience conducting research with vulnerable populations in the area of traumatic stress ( i.e., incarcerated persons, people with PTSD) is also desirable.
  • Previous experience working with persons living with mental illness in a professional capacity. Proficiency with online survey software (REDCap, Qualtrics).

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates manuscript and grant submissions, registration, and abstraction and assists in the development of scientific portions for research grant proposals.
  • Trains classified research staff and assists in instruction of Medical Interns.
  • Orders and inventories materials and supplies and maintains cleanliness of glassware and equipment.
  • Performs statistical analyses of data collected and recommends refinements in scientific protocols used in the research.
  • Conducts research under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Faculty researchers and senior research staff and participates in evaluation of research results.
  • Prepares laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals for research tests. Reads, calculates, and records test data using a spectrophotometer, microscope, or other lab equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
