Position Summary

Support STERIS IP and STERIS IPT Capital, and STERIS Endoscopy teams through subject matter expert consulting. Principal Consultants are required to collaborate and integrate ideas across all STERIS business units both domestic and international. Focus on growing STERIS revenue within IP as well as influencing future growth for STERIS IPT and STERIS Endoscopy revenues through strategic and operational consulting assessments and process improvement projects while improving Customer and/or internal operations, developing and supporting the transition of Customers to offsite or centralized external options, and developing brand loyalty to STERIS while maintaining a neutral presence. Meet set margins for projects and provide oversight when serving in the role of Lead Consultant. Provide market intelligence and product feedback to relevant STERIS and IP marketing teams. Travel extensively to Customer locations nationwide.

The position maintains an expertise in sterile processing, participates and speaks at industry functions, and provides support as needed to STERIS initiatives.

Duties

  • IP Sales Support: Supports IP sales team as sterile processing subject matter expert to gain Customer confidence, grow product line revenue, promote STERIS solutions, develop Customer proposals, refine offerings to meet Customer deliverables, provide assessment planning, identify ensure financial requirements are met, and coordinate efforts with Business Development team, IMS Repair and Surgical Instruments , STERIS IPT, STERIS Endoscopy: regional and corporate accounts representatives, as applied.
  • Customer Assessments & Engagements: Performs strategic and operational assessments in sterile processing, surgical support areas, and endoscopy. Collaborates with Hospital C-level leadership to develop strategic decisions to meet Customer financial and operational objectives.Financial impact of strategic decisions ranges from $1 million to $20 million plus.Able to work with Customer to determine initial assessment requirements, develop scope of work and timeframe to complete assessment, engages the Customer Executive stakeholders, organize and perform assessment, and present professional product neutral findings to include appropriate onsite and /or offsite solutions which include STERIS options to support Customer's operational requirements. Serve in the role of Lead Consultant when the engagement includes multiple resources. Manages and maintains the planned budget for the engagement. Builds partnership opportunities with Customer Executive Team and makes appropriate introductions to STERIS resources that support customer needs: consumables, clinical education, product support, service, product design, repair services, instrument support.
  • Customer Process Improvement: Develop Customer process improvement plan and provide executive leadership and guidance to IP and Customer process improvement teams. Mentors sterile processing leadership on management best practices, lean methodologies, operational and clinical best practices, and change management to achieve measurable operational improvement. Ensures that Process Improvement outcomes arefavorable for the Customer. Develops and mentor's resources that participate in process improvement. Able to oversee multiple Customer engagements simultaneously.

  • Management and Development of Direct Reports: Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to employees. Clearly define and monitor GPS Objectives for optimal performance. Encourage employees to work in a positive environment. Monitors employee's ongoing work performance by providing coaching and guidance. Implement measures and ensure employees follow safety measures. Hire, onboard, and train staff for ideal outcomes. Maximize the output from all direct report's talents that drive the company's goals.
  • IP Operations Support: Provide consulting expertise to improve internal IP sterile processing operations.Includes assessments, process improvement, compliance audits, operational score cards, and leadership mentoring to IP outsource accounts, owned off-site reprocessing centers, and IP staff and leadership.
  • STERIS IPT Capital and STERIS Endoscopy Sales Support: Provide subject matter expertise to position STERIS solutions and enhance win rates for competitive projects valued from $500,000 to $5 million dollars and greater.Coordinates with STERIS IPT Capital, IP Operations, and STERIS Endoscopy on strategic utilization of consulting services to achieve STERIS revenue and margin objectives and sales growth.
  • Negotiations/Proposals: Collaborate with and advise key business leaders during contract negotiations with Customers. Responsible for proposal development to include assessment planning and resource allocation. Must have sound understanding of financial indicators to ensure a favorable contract for both our Customers and STERIS IP.
  • Training: Provides training to other Professional Services consultants on best practices, process improvement methods, consulting tools, and Customer management.Acts as team leader and role model in setting the standard for professionalism.

  • Team Responsibilities: Maintains professional knowledge and expertise in sterile processing, including HHLD, practices and regulations as well as operational lean methodologies and their application to the sterile processing environment.Maintains ability to manage, improve and lead process improvement projects for a sterile processing department. Maintains the ability to manage and lead strategic studies at the system, organizational and enterprise-level. Maintains the ability to manage and lead a team of consultants. Maintains professional knowledge in the development of offsite reprocessing center (ORC) strategies and transitioning from an onsite operation to a centralized or offsite processing center. Continually collaborates with ORC Operations and Engineering Teams to align strategies and support the development of tools for transition planning to ORCs both customer and STERIS owned.Manages multiple projects congruently. Provides input and expertise in developing consulting tools and training material to improve consulting efficiencies, increasing value to Customer, and differentiating STERIS from the competition. Participates and leads in STERIS initiatives and works with all STERIS departments as a corporate representative furthering STERIS strategic objective. Participates in industry trade show activities and professionally represents STERIS as needed.Attends sterile processing local and professional organization programs. Actively speaks at industry events as an expert on sterile processing solutions and publishes industry relevant articles.Stays informed of consulting and healthcare news, new products, services, and other general information of interest to STERIS and our Customers. Continuously reads and consumes information on lean, healthcare, operations, process improvement, industry standards, and anything relevant to improving personal and group expertise and value add to STERIS.

Education Degree
  • High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college and 10 years of experience working with Customers in the healthcare sector and/or tertiary care hospitals or High School Diploma and 15 years of experience working with Customers in the healthcare sector and/or tertiary care hospitals
  2. Minimum 8 years of Sterile Processing and process improvement experience.
  3. Must have a minimum of 5 years in a Sterile Processing leadership or consulting position.
  4. Master's degree preferred.

Preferred Experience

  1. Computer Skills: Working experience with all Microsoft programs, knowledge of spreadsheet software and word processing software. Ability to learn Oracle or other systems.




  1. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must maintain valid driver's license and vehicle insurance to meet travel requirements.




  1. Other Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of Operating Room and Sterile Processing processes and protocols, and medical/surgical instruments required.

Skills

Pay range for this opportunity is$98,750.00-$148,050.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.

Employees are covered by an employee assistance program (also available to household members) and long-term disability. Full-Time Employees are also eligible for short-term disability. Full-time Employees will also receive Paid Time Off (PTO) based on years of service and paid Holidays. Part-time employees working 20 or more hours receive a pro-ration of the full-time PTO allocation and paid Holidays based on their standard hourly work week. Full-Time employees are eligible for four weeks of paid parental leave. Part-time employees also receive paid parental leave, pro-rated based on their standard hourly work week.
