Position Summary: The CMM Programmer I will independently develop new, troubleshoot, and edit existing inspection programs utilizing CMM/Gauge software for inspection of simple to medium complexity components. This position will work alongside CMM/CNC Programmers, and inspectors in a fast paced, dynamic, team environment to provide technical and operational support in the completion of assigned projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Create new programs and modify existing CMM/Gauge inspection plans using 3d CAD models and part drawings for simple to medium complexity components.
  • Designs custom operator prompts to facilitate machine operator interface.
  • Prove-out CMM/Gauge inspection plans for navigational and computational errors for one system/sensor/software, including conducting GRR's and correlation with mechanical inspection and other automated inspection systems.
  • Provide mechanical inspection support and CMM verification for medium to highly complex machined components using all available equipment.
  • Communicate CMM results and present graphical views and analysis, as well as understand SPC analysis to enable process troubleshooting, machine correction as well as engineering design / drawing improvements using quality data collection software.
  • Qualify, assemble, replace, and create new CMM/Gauge stylus systems and Styli as well as calibrate. Perform basic system troubleshooting. Open tickets with customer service for CMM/Gauge problems.
  • Identify and assemble existing fixturing and determine new types for component work holding on automated inspection machines for medium to highly complex components.
  • Create and maintain CMM/Gauge reports, GRR reports, & correlation reports. Any other documents related to CMM/Gauge equipment.
  • Engage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Follow all internal ISO regulated departments processes and procedures.
  • Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High School Diploma or GED required. BS/AS Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality or other engineering discipline preferred. 3 years minimum as a CMM Programmer using automated inspection software required.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Technologist ASME Y14.5M-2009/2018 engineering drawing standards certificate (or equivalent) required.
  • Basic and advanced course certification of inspection software training required (Calypso, PCDMIS, Modus, ATOS, etc.).
  • Ability to use Microsoft office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access), Program Management Software (GitKraken), any accessory applications needed to perform duties.
  • Help out occasionally without being asked.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Communicate effectively to supervision regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
