Business Development Associate

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Business Development Associate will work as part of a high performing team to ensure that MSH consistently delivers at or above long-term revenue goals. With significant coordination and collaboration with SBDP staff and MSH staff across the organization, the Business Development Associate supports all aspects of business development at MSH through three key functions: (1) contributing to development of compliant, responsive, and competitive proposals that reflect MSH's technical approach and competitive offerings to varied donors with the highest quality standards, ; (2) assisting in positioning activities for identified opportunities including research, competitive analyses, and partnership outreach, and (3) contributing to the development and improvement of business development tools and resources.

Bid and Proposal Development - %65

  • Working under the direction of the Proposal Manager, Technical Strategy Lead, or their designee, support proposal development so that final proposals are responsive to the needs of the client, reflect the technical approach of MSH, and are professionally produced. This includes contributing to the proposal team's development of the win strategy, partner strategy, recruitment strategy, and cost strategy to submit competitive proposals.

  • Help ensure the responsiveness and compliance of proposals against solicitation requirements.

  • Develop and maintain the proposal calendar and monitor adherence to the defined process and deadlines for technical proposals, rosters/recruiting, production schedules, and quality standards. Work with the other team members to resolve issues causing delays or other roadblocks in the proposal process to ensure the team meets internal and external deadlines.

  • Coordinate team communications through meetings and email and continuously clarify the roles and responsibilities of team members.

  • Collect and track proposal-related information, including taking meeting minutes, and disseminate information to team members.

  • Support the Proposal Manager and Technical Strategy Lead by coordinating the development of partner scopes of work and negotiations for pre-teaming and teaming agreements.

  • Work with proposed partners to be sure that they provide their required information as needed to support the proposal.

  • Draft and/or copy edit assigned sections of proposals, which may include capabilities statements, past performance sections, and annexes.

  • Work with proposal teams to ensure institutional capability statements and past performance narratives for MSH and our partners are accurate, as directed by a Technical Strategy Lead, Proposal Manager, or another team member.

  • Contribute to identifying and reviewing high-quality background materials (from credible, current sources with documentation) to use in writing technical proposals or to provide to other team writers.

  • Coordinate with the graphics designer for development of high-quality, compelling graphics to portray key concepts and strategies.

  • Facilitate communication between the cost and technical team members to ensure the technical strategy/proposal is integrated with the corresponding cost proposal.

  • Coordinate color reviews of proposal drafts by internal and external reviewers.

  • May be responsible for production of the final technical proposal, including formatting the proposal in Word and saving proposals in PDF, as well official submission.

  • Participate in proposal development process debrief and donor debrief meetings.

  • Save all final materials in shared folders, etc.

Advancing MSH Partnerships - %5

  • Assist SBDP and technical teams to organize and coordinate outreach to new partners, including global, regional, and local partners.

  • Help coordinate MSH's participation in marketing events, conferences, or other.

Country Engagement - %10

  • Support collaboration with country-based colleagues for business development activities and preparations for new and follow-on projects, including researching, collating, aggregating, and summarizing project evaluations and background information.

Pipeline Management - %10

  • In alignment with MSH's technical, donor, and geographic priorities, assist positioning leads to ensure up-to-date knowledge of donors and the health landscape; manage relationships with MSH staff, and consultants. This includes working collaboratively with technical, programs, and field staff as well as external stakeholders to develop and implement intelligence gathering and positioning strategies to strengthen MSH's competitiveness for winning new business.

  • Responsible for managing, disseminating, and verifying business intelligence for general positioning and specific opportunities.

  • Help prepare analysis for specific bid recommendations, including internal and external resource needs.

Team Effectiveness and Management - %10

  • Serve as an effective and collaborative member of the SBDP team and with other MSH staff across the organization.

  • Assist in the development and improvement of BD tools and resources, including procedures, templates, and trainings.

  • Liaise with SBDP, field, technical, and programs teams to develop tools and processes that integrate business development elements and perspectives to ensure closer collaboration and coordination.

  • Participate in cross-organizational initiatives as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • A bachelor's degree.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to initiate and organize work, establish priorities in a time-sensitive environment, and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple competing priorities across time zones.

  • Demonstrated ability to work productively with a cross-cultural team and foster a collaborative spirit and effective, positive working relationships with colleagues across an organization.

  • Strong written and verbal English-language communication skills; knowledge of a second language preferred.

  • Ability to conduct research efficiently to identify or check information.

  • Familiarity with issues related to international development, public health, the social sector, or the social sciences desired.

  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, especially MS Word and PowerPoint; familiarity with MS Teams and SharePoint useful.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to handle the high stress environment of business development with diplomacy and a sense of humor.

  • Ability to initiate and organize work; think critically and demonstrated good judgment; establish priorities and make decisions and/or seek assistance when needed in a time sensitive environment; and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.

  • Team player who is also able to work independently with ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and work proactively to follow through on activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to travel within the US and to countries where MSH operates.

The expected salary range for this position is: $40,000.00 - $49,000.00 annually (U.S. locations only).
