Job Overview

Our Connectors Business Unit in Leeds, AL is seeking a skilled individual to provide comprehensive laboratory testing services, encompassing mechanical, environmental, and current cycle tests. This role supports the Hubbell Connectors Business Unit, alongside other Hubbell Utility Solutions Business Units and third-party clients. The primary focus will be on assessing the performance and safety of electrical utility distribution and transmission connector products.

A Day In The Life

  • Conduct comprehensive product testing of electrical utility connector products, adhering to ANSI, IEEE, IEC, and Telcordia testing standards.
  • Operate both horizontal and vertical tensile testing equipment and manage high current testing procedures for connector products.
  • Prioritize and schedule all test requests submitted to the Leeds Laboratory, ensuring efficient management of workflows.
  • Implement test plans according to specified test methods, adhering to laboratory quality documentation and industry standards.
  • Compile detailed test reports that clearly describe the test objects, equipment utilized, test procedures, and outcomes.
  • Offer technical support to colleagues within the department to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Engage in various ancillary activities such as equipment maintenance, calibration, training, and cleaning, as directed by the supervisor.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including internal and remote engineering groups, to coordinate testing strategies for product development, research and development, and design/process/supplier modifications.
  • Facilitate customer observation tests both onsite and through remote web conferencing, ensuring transparency and client engagement in the testing process.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Two-year technical degree, trade school or relevant associate's degree, or High School Diploma combined with relevant industry experience
  • Experience in operating and maintaining test or manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience conducting tests in a mechanical laboratory setting.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting technical drawings to establish standardized testing methods for products.
  • Capable of comprehending industry standards (ANSI, IEC, IEEE, and Telcordia), interpreting testing requirements, and executing tests according to standardized methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential.
  • Self-motivated individual with a strong initiative and the ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be willing to work out on the floor on your feet for extended periods of time
