DESCRIPTION

Decypher is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to support the contract in San Diego, CA.

QUALIFICATIONS



  • Degree: Certificate.
  • Education: Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes didactic & hands-on phlebotomy (or required by state law). High school equivalent and completion of NAACLS or two-part Phlebotomy program.
  • Certification: Certification/registration as determined by state requirements or a national certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or other equivalent certification below:


    • American Certification Agency (CPTACA)



    • American Medical Certification Association (PTC-AMCA)



    • National Center for Competency Testing (NCPT-NCCT/MMCI)



    • National Health career Association (CPT-NHA)




  • Experience: One year of experience within the last two years as a phlebotomy technician preferred but not required.


RESPONSIBILITIES

* Collect blood samples from patients and blood donors at both Naval Medical Center San Diego and external

blood drive locations.

* Practice proper patient/donor identification, throughout the various steps in blood collection and processing.

* Label specimens and administrative records appropriately.

* Determine appropriate anatomic site for venipuncture.

* Transport blood, blood products and specimens for processing or testing according to established procedure.

* Expect to work with a large number of patients and donors varying in age and health status.

* Practice infection control and Personal Protective Equipment standards

* Complete extensive standardized training and demonstrate competency to perform each job function and commit to perform only those tasks for which documented training has been completed.

* Provide instruction and training as requested following designation of Preceptor/Instructor status.

* Perform other related duties as necessary.

* Provide services in compliance with applicable military installation and Service written policies, procedures and regulations, as well as those of the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Joint Commission.

* Perform registration duties associated with blood drives on all prospective donors, including but not limited to, preparation of donor card demographic information, donor interviews and donor eligibility determination, obtain donor history, and input donor demographic data into the Electronic Blood Management System (EBMS) computer system.

* Assess donor temperature and blood pressure and annotate on DD572 Donor Records. Determine whether donors meet acceptable criteria for hemoglobin or hematocrit by the use of Copper Sulfate (CuSO4), spun hematocrit, or other validated method.

* Perform phlebotomy using standard blood bags in accordance with established standard operating procedures, Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) guidelines, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.
