We have an opening on our Lab Operations Team for a Supervisor, Lab Specimen Processing.

Schedule:

Tuesday - Saturday. Tuesday - Friday 6am start. Saturday 9am start.

The Lab Specimen Processor Supervisor is responsible for managing the Lab Specimen Processor staff and the pre-analytical functions of specimen opening, lab support, test entry, aliquoting, centrifugation, batching and racking to ensure that all operational procedures and processes are followed including regulatory compliance within the laboratory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following are intended to be examples of the accountabilities for which the person in this position is responsible.   • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Lab Specimen Processors including time and attendance, work schedules, time off requests, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise all functions within the laboratory including specimen opening, lab support, test entry, aliquoting, centrifugation, batching and racking.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring for all staff through regularly scheduled one-on-ones.
  • Initiate and conduct progressive disciplinary process when appropriate; involve HR as needed.
  • Responsible for training, scheduling, budgeting, supply maintenance and coordination with department administration and additional laboratory staff.
  • Ensure services being completed are of the best accuracy and are being carried out in an efficient manner within the standards and guidelines of current accreditations.
  • Responsible for being aware of safety issues and work in a safe manner in the lab at all times.
  • Understand the flow of the specimen through the lab and how each cell influences the flow of the specimen. Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Monitor employees' productivity and take appropriate action to minimize overtime.
  • Knowledgeable of CAP regulatory requirements and other clinical laboratory audits and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate training and competencies are met.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance on equipment and printers and promptly reports issues/problems.
  • Ensure audit-readiness in the lab at all times and follows up on issues/concerns associated with visits from regulatory/accrediting agencies.
  • Assist during internal and external laboratory inspections, to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and company standards.
  • Ensure Laboratory Occurrence Management (LOM) forms are completed for anomalies; organize and implement corrective action procedures as necessary.
  • Review accuracy of employee timecards and approve timecards daily.
  • Interview prospective Laboratory Specimen Processor employees.
  • Attend organizational meetings with team leads and provide feedback and updates to department.
  • Review and approve SOPs for the department. Ensure that SOPs are current.
  • Provide for the development and growth of Leads.
  • Demonstrate understanding of HIPAA laws and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-3 years of supervisory/management experience within a clinical lab, biotech or manufacturing industry highly preferred.
  • Experience managing a large staff (25+) preferred.
  • Lab experience preferred.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of management and staff.
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, operating well in a team setting.
  • Ability to set own goals and expectations while meeting company's goals.
  • Effective attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
  • Proficient and able to meet deadlines.
  • Possesses proven team building skills with training knowledge/background.
  • Ability to address employee issues/differences with fairness; strong conflict resolution skills.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES

  • Proficient in MS office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Should have demonstrable comfort in the office environment.
  • Must handle daily changes well and be flexible in an ever changing environment.
  • Ability to ensure HIPAA, Confidentiality and Compliance policy, procedures, and standards are always adhered to.
  • Ability to ensure administrative, physical and technical cyber security controls are always adhered to.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing (20%), sitting (20%), walking (60%) and lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Physical requirements will vary depending on departmental needs.
  • The employee is expected to read and understand SOPs.
  • The employee should be able to convert SOP instructions into work-related tasks.
  • The employee must be able to perform simple calculations as required in SOPs.
  • The employee must be able to use judgment when there is a deviation in the system and effectively communicate any discrepancy to his/her Supervisor.
  • Must be able to speak in front of small to large groups.

ADDITIONAL PHYISCAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The employee is regularly exposed to a fast-paced environment, therefore must be able to thrive in this type of setting.
  • Withstand moderate amounts of stress and the ability to work in an environment where the noise level is usually moderate.
  • Must be able to work an extended schedule as needed.
  • Due to occupational work with saliva/oral swab specimens, there is a low risk of exposure to tuberculosis. As part of Millennium Health's Tuberculosis Exposure Plan, all laboratory personnel have the opportunity to be screened for tuberculosis free of charge.

Benefits

POTENTIAL HIRING RANGE:

  • $67,000-$75,000
  • Offers are based on skills, knowledge, and abilities of the selected candidate.
