Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Risk Manager in Bermuda!

About the role

The Risk Manager contributes to Symetra Bermuda Re Ltd.'s ("SBR's" or "the company's") risk management program, working out of the company's Bermuda office. Reporting to the SBR VP of Risk & Capital Management, this person will contribute to efforts to mitigate both operational and regulatory risk within the company. This person will contribute to the success of the company's risk management framework through risk identification, reporting and assessment. They will be responsible for the ongoing review of key processes, activities and the related controls that have material risk.

What you will do



  • Contribute to the management of operational risk and governance for the company.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the company's risk framework and risk management policies.
  • Support the company's compliance with the risk framework and risk policies, including regular company-wide risk assessments.
  • Monitor the performance of third-party service providers that provide material functions on behalf of the company.
  • Support the enterprise's compliance with the Bermuda Insurance Code of Conduct.
  • Develop and maintain the business continuity plans and procedures for work performed in Bermuda.
  • Support the development and monitor performance of controls and documentation across business functions.
  • Identify gaps and key risks in processes, working with business units to rectify and mitigate.
  • Provide expert advice to key stakeholders on all risk-related matters; Collaborate with relevant parties to ensure both the control environment and corporate governance are operating effectively to sustainably mitigate risk.
  • Lead regular and ad hoc operational risk review, ensuring business units comply with the company's risk policies.

Compensation

Salary Range: $91,200 - $151,900 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who you are



  • Bachelors degree
  • 5+ years in the financial services industry
  • Experience in Operations, Governance, Compliance or Audit in the financial services industry.
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize, organize, plan, and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent and highly effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely with others across various functions and build/maintain relationships.
  • Technical knowledge of Operational Risk, Governance, Compliance, and business process design.
  • Goal oriented with a track record of driving through to completion.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills.
  • CERA, CPA, CFA, PRM, MBA or other relevant Risk/Finance qualification preferred.
  • Experience with the Bermuda Monetary Authority's Risk and Governance framework.
  • Experience with Enterprise Risk Management or risk-based auditing.
  • Experience with Long Term and Asset-Intensive Insurance and Reinsurance.
  • Willingness to relocated to Bermuda if needed
