JOB TYPE Classification: Nonexempt Supervises Positions: No PRN requirements are a minimum two (2) twelve (12) hour shifts every 6 weeks. JOB SUMMARY The Registered Respiratory Therapist serves as an intricate member of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized respiratory plan of care that promotes optimal health or a comforting peaceful death. The Registered Respiratory Therapist utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. The Registered Respiratory Therapist accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures. Collaboration: Participates in the teaching and counseling of patients and their support system.
Communication and Documentation: Communicates individualized plan of care and patient's progress toward goals to all members of the care team, including the patient and his/her chosen support system.
Professional Accountability/Evidence Based Practice: Maintain clinical and professional competencies according to department policies.
Quality Improvement: Intervenes when standards of care are not met.
Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members/internal customers.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Associate's Degree/Certificate required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Registered by National Board of Respiratory Care and current RCP licensure in applicable state required. BLS required upon hire. ACLS, NRP, and PALS to be completed within 90 days of hire date. CRT or RRT. VA State Licensure. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Completes 2 Respiratory Care competencies/year. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demand Code: 23A, Therapist Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
