UVA Health is seeking a PA or NP to join its Inpatient Endocrinology advanced practice provider (APP) team. The APP hired for this position will join a collaborative team of consultant APPs and physicians managing endocrine disorders for inpatients across multiple service lines at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. The successful candidate will join a growing consultant team managing a list of 40-50+ patients, with approximately 75% of those geared toward glycemic management.
As this team grows, an APP-led diabetes consult service with a practice model emphasizing both autonomy and team collaboration will help our growing patient population continue realizing the many benefits associated with high-level glycemic management. Care of additional endocrine disorders will be managed in collaboration with an attending endocrinologist. Staffing & Scheduling Information: *The standard staffing model includes 3 APPs on weekday day shifts, and 2 APPs on weekend day shifts. As the team grows, and along with a possible increase in demand, this staffing model may adjust accordingly. *This team DOES maintain staffing on holidays. There is no night shift coverage. *Shifts are 10 hours in length, making up 4 10-hour workdays each week. Key Responsibilities: *Patient Care: oConduct comprehensive assessments, including history and physical examinations of patients with endocrine disorders. oManage acute and chronic endocrine conditions, predominantly diabetes mellitus, but also thyroid, adrenal, and other metabolic disorders. oDevelop, implement, and monitor treatment plans in collaboration with endocrinologists, members of the patient's primary team, and other healthcare providers. oOrder and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory results relevant to endocrine disorders. oProvide patient education on disease management, treatment plans, and lifestyle modifications. *Clinical Duties: oManage inpatient consultations and follow-up care for endocrine patients. oMonitor and adjust medications and treatment regimens based on patient response and clinical guidelines. In the diabetes space, patients may require multiple medication adjustments on a given day. oCoordinate care with specialists, surgeons, dietitians, and other healthcare team professionals. *Collaboration and Communication: oCollaborate with attending endocrinologists, fellows, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. oParticipate in case discussions, rounds, and care planning meetings. oCommunicate management plans and recommendations effectively with primary service teams, and patients and families, providing clear explanations and addressing questions/concerns. *Documentation and Compliance: oMaintain accurate and thorough patient records, including progress notes, orders, and billing/coding entries. oEnsure documentation is compliant with hospital policies, legal requirements, and accreditation standards. *Professional Development: oStay current with advancements in endocrinology and related fields through continuing education and professional development. oParticipate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and research oAn annual financial allowance for CME/professional development is made available by the institution. Clinical: Educational: Leadership: Quality/Stewardship/Outcomes: Research: Professional Development: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Master's Degree as an Advance Practice Provider - Nurse Practitioner or as an Advance Practice Provider - Physician Assistant Experience: One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred. Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of the UVA Medical Center, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and the appropriate certifying bodies. Must be enrolled with all payers through Delegated Credentialing and can participate in Medicaid and Medicare for billing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling/bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
