About the Job.

The Senior Manager, Business Systems (BSM) will be responsible for the support and enhancement of JPI's financial systems. The core accounting system is Workday Financials, which is integrated with construction project management and payment compliance systems. JPI will also deploy Workday Adaptive as its business planning solution in the near future.

The candidate will lead a team responsible for operational support of the systems, including master data management, workflow configuration and management of access and security roles. The BSM is further responsible for engaging with business unit and accounting team leadership to identify system optimization opportunities, prioritize those opportunities, and deliver effective continuous improvement of the system, including further development of system integrations and enhanced reporting. Moreover, the BSM owns system change logs and corresponding change communications to those impacted by enhancements and bug fixes.

JPI is constantly upgrading its financial systems technology, so projects to implement new financial systems and integrate them with Workday will frequently be launched. The BSM will be a core team member of any such implementations, contributing system expertise and design support.

Workday periodically releases improvements, including new features and enhancements. The BSM will be responsible for leading the internal JPI efforts to identify impacts and benefits, coordinate testing program, and communicate changes throughout testing and implementation.

Essential functions & Responsibilities

  • Manage the team providing support to financial system end-users.

  • Serve as an escalation point for challenging support issues not solved by the analyst team. Takes responsibility for troubleshooting and problem-solving escalated issues.

  • Solution, configure, test, implement and maintain Workday enhancements leveraging subject matter expertise.

  • Manage the interface and ticketing system with the 3rd party Application Management Services (AMS) provider. Works with accounting leadership to prioritize tickets and drive timely completion of tickets.

  • Maintain detailed task management for optimization of process, configuration and reports in financial systems. Own status update for in-flight initiatives and enhancements. Conduct requirements gathering on new requests.

  • Identify, document, and communicate risks encountered on in-flight initiatives and escalate to accounting leadership, technology leadership, or process owners, as applicable.

  • Monitor compliance to and effectiveness of financial controls, and work with finance team leadership to continuously improve controls.

  • Own and update change log, ensuring communications to impacted individuals to drive system governance.

  • Conduct regular reviews with stakeholders on system performance and health.

  • Document support requests using the company's ticketing software, create system reports that will aid in identifying training opportunities.

  • Create Q&A or knowledge articles for user self-service.

  • Train and coach new and existing employees on software systems and procedures. Identify internal knowledge gaps for self and analysts; recommend external training courses, as applicable.

  • Support implementation and verification of company financial controls, including participation in financial audits.

  • Perform user audits for business systems. Maintain user accounts and permissions.

  • Ensure all financial systems are functioning properly.

  • Understand company financial systems strategy and contribute to its implementation.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot system integrations.

  • Continuously interact with Workday Community and help lead the assessment of impact of new Workday features, coordinate rollout, testing and user training.

  • Take an active role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement that delivers scalable and repeatable business processes. Advocate for Workday best practices.

Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements

  • Accounting degree required.

  • 3-5 years' experience implementing and supporting Workday required.

  • Hold one or more Workday Certifications for Financials, Adaptive, Security, Administration and/or Financials Reporting.

  • Exposure to real estate and construction project accounting practices preferred.

  • Experienced in solving problems and improving business processes in a systems environment.

  • Experience in the management of technical people and support partners.

  • Experience in stakeholder management, including the ability to manage challenging priorities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to relate to people at all levels of an organization.

  • Adaptable to evolving business needs.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Exceptional critical thinking and reasoning skills; Resourceful.
