Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is a 58-year-old African American institution and nonprofit serving a multi-cultural community of 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. Wages & Benefits

$22.00 - $27.00 per hour; Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), plus 11 paid holidays and two floating holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA), and options for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short- and long-term disability insurance. SCC sponsors a retirement plan with 4% employer match and immediate vesting.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as Sabathani's Youth Coordinator provides an opportunity to play a crucial role in developing and nurturing relationships with STEM industries, corporations, and educational institutions to create opportunities for our target demographic. This position will focus on empowering youth between the ages of 18-24 by connecting them with STEM-related programs, internships, mentorship, and career pathways. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Using engagement skills with youth and participants to conduct orientation, program overview, and intake interviews for participants enrolled in youth programming.
  • Providing orientation activities, workshops, and ongoing career coaching for participants.
  • Developing relationships with educational institutions and organizations that provide services for youth.
  • Working collaboratively with employers to place participants with hiring opportunities.
  • Developing program commencement activities that facilitate reflection and prepare individuals to transition out of the program.
  • Managing a caseload of at least 25 youth.
  • Generating database reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis or as requested.


Who You Are



  • You have a bachelor's degree in a related field (Education, Social Work, or similar).
  • You have previous experience in nonprofit program development, partnership building, or youth engagement.
  • You have previous experience implementing project initiatives and facilitating group activities.
  • You demonstrate a willingness to learn a variety of tasks, a thorough understanding of nonprofit practices, a strong work ethic, and a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • You possess the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • You understand the importance of customer service and professionalism.
  • You have knowledge and experience working with diverse groups of people from lower socioeconomic conditions.
  • You demonstrate skills in conflict management.
  • You are competent in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • You have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • You possess excellent oral, written, and group communication skills.
  • You have highly developed organizational skills and are comfortable taking initiative.
  • You are able to travel within a 15-mile radius of the office.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Sabathani's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
