The Department of Surgery has an opening for a full-time Faculty position Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

The Division of GI, Trauma and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery (GITES) at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, has a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

Key Responsibilities:



  • The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services as an Advanced Practice Provider for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (TACS) service at Anschutz Medical Campus. These duties will include both an inpatient rounding and consultative role. The Inpatient responsibilities include rounding, writing orders, independent imaging/laboratory review, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and discharge activities.
  • The consult duties will include participating in trauma bay resuscitations, seeing emergency general surgery & trauma consults, admitting patients, collaborating with consultants, preforming bedside procedures and assisting in the operating room if needed.
  • There are additional outpatient responsibilities that may be necessary for cross coverage of our service including clinic care, triage of phone calls, emails or faxes, post-op care, follow-up on home care requests, management of referrals and follow-up on diagnostic lab and radiology tests.
  • Close collaboration with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists and hospital staff will be necessary. One key feature of this position is the need to work in close collaboration with surgical residents. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and multidisciplinary providers is essential.
  • The candidate will provide care to patients in the on the inpatient wards, the intensive care unit, acute care areas, and occasionally in the outpatient clinics.
  • Given the rotating nature of the resident assignments to services, the NP/PA will be a critical part of service continuity and also a link between the inpatient and outpatient environments for patients.
  • The census and acuity of clinical practice varies from service to service and NP/PAs may at times be asked to provide cross coverage clinical care on different services to deal with this issue.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Colorado license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Two years' experience in general surgery, trauma surgery, or critical care setting preferred.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$99,819 to $140,566

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
