Purpose

The Financial and Business Officer provides advanced financial planning and analysis to the Texas Institute for Electronics and is a crucial member of the Finance team, playing a vital role to support business development models, budget preparation, financial reporting, and forecasting, development of pro forma financials for projects, grant applications, programs and other initiatives.

Responsibilities

Financial Analysis, Planning, and Reporting:

  • Create queries to gather, clean, validate, merge and maintain data sets from multiple sources. Conduct workflow analysis, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analysis to identify and recommend improvements to business processes.

  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports and presentations for management, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and other organizations. Perform impact analysis and maintain complex databases to conduct comprehensive financial and technical analysis. Develop a departmental financial report dashboard. Conduct monthly, quarterly, and multi-year forecasts.

  • Apply statistical methods to datasets to analyze current state. Perform gap, variance, or trend analysis to identify trends, patterns, opportunities and efficiencies. Analyze performance against budgets and provide actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Coordinate with business leadership to identify organizational needs. Ability to understand and break down business needs into data-answerable questions. Communicate key data in a user-friendly and concise manner to individuals with varying levels of financial acumen, including presentations to program managers, senior management, and cross-functional team members.

Process Improvements:

  • Recommend and assist with projects to document, modernize, streamline, and implement improvements to enhance processes and create efficiencies. Develop procedural documentation.

Compliance:

  • Ensure all processes are documented, performed utilizing best practices, and complies with departmental, college/CSU, university, state, and/or federal policies and procedures. Ensure data and files comply with university records retention requirement. Participate in gathering data for audit requests.

General:

  • Act as backup to team members. Assist with review and approval of departmental payments and procurement functions. Assist with preparation of annual budgets, communicate schedules and organize necessary information for leadership review.

  • Assist in ad-hoc projects. Participate in continued professional development.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, including assisting in duties outside of regular job duties.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting, cost and financial analysis.

  • Proven advanced capability in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Power BI, SQL, or other business intelligence and data analytical applications/systems.

  • Proven experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Strong facilitation and organizational skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills; analytical, creative, and/or mathematical problem-solving.

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple projects work to deliver high-quality system solutions in a fast-paced environment with constant deadlines.

  • Technical aptitude, initiative, creativity, including strong customer-service orientation and experience working in a team-oriented environment.

  • Able to quickly adapt to new circumstances, information, and challenges.

  • Ability to be discreet with confidential matters and to use sound judgment to facilitate independent decisions.

  • Ability to understand and break down business needs into data-answerable questions.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience in higher education

  • Current business analyst certification

  • Demonstrated knowledge of UT Austin's core business processes and operations.

Salary Range

$100,000 + depending on qualifications
