Position Announcement

The Department of Healthcare Diagnostics and Therapeutics at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, is seeking an enthusiastic and well-qualified individual for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences. The mission of our Medical Laboratory Sciences program is to graduate professionally accomplished MLS scholars committed to lifelong learning and prepared to meet current and future workforce needs in medical laboratory sciences. Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture, laboratory, and/or clinical courses at the baccalaureate level in immunohematology and lab management, and teach other Program courses as necessary or assigned.
  • Work with Program Director and Department Chair to ensure the maintenance of high-quality teaching and the integration of the curricula within the MLS program.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and assessment of MLS curriculum in harmony with accreditation standards, assessment processes, and best practices.
  • Assist in the maintenance of NAACLS accreditation including annual reports, self-review and self-study reports, site visit coordination, and follow-up.
  • Assist with contractual agreements with affiliating clinical agencies used in the MLS Department.
  • Adhere to department, college, and University policies and perform campus-wide faculty responsibilities, including:
  • Holding office hours.
  • Advising students and managing student learning experiences, including evaluating student learning successes and achievements.
  • Attending department, division, and University meetings and events.
  • Serving on department, division, and University committees as assigned.
  • Engaging in community, University, departmental, and discipline service activities.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science required, Doctorate degree preferred. Must qualify as NAACLS-approved medical laboratory professional.
  • Strong background in hematology preferred.
  • Experience conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness preferred.
  • Must hold current ASCP BOC U.S. generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, appropriate course content, current trends, and methodologies in education and medical laboratory science.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to represent the MLS Program and Utah Tech University well to the community and other stakeholders.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $68,000-$72,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
