Overview Primary Purpose The resource specialist plans, develops, markets, and delivers public health education regarding maternal and child health and lifestyle habits to communities and patients. The resource specialists act as a cultural liaison to the clinical team to aid in cross cultural understanding, enhance quality of services, and amplify the voices of Latino(a)/Hispanic communities and families served by Atrium Health. In addition to educating groups or individuals, the resource specialists will develop and lead outreach activities, recruitment, and resource navigation to achieve optimal health outcomes. Major Responsibilities
Minimum Job Requirement Education A bachelor's degree in public health, health education, health promotion or a closely related field such as psychology, social work, biology, sociology, education or physical education Work Experience 2 years or more coordinating and leading health education programs or sessions related to maternal and child health, community health, disease prevention, health equity, public health, or health and human services. Certification as a PASOs resource specialist must be completed after hire and will be provided. Experience working with the Latino(a)/Hispanic community is preferred. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Ability to engage groups in leaning processes. Highly self-motivated, with ability to work independently and in a team setting. Knowledge of the principles, practices and theories of outreach, health promotion and education. Proficiency in Spanish, as well as English, to effectively communicate with Latino communities and team members of Atrium Health as well as community partners, etc. In-depth understanding and appreciation of Latino cultures, traditions, and values. Experience in community work or health related fields preferred, with a strong understanding of community dynamics and public health principles is valuable. Ability to develop effective working relationships with a variety of individuals to gain support and interest in the program's objectives. Adept at identifying challenges and developing innovative solutions to overcome barriers to health access and education. Ability to apply knowledge of a variety of federal, state and local resources, programs and services involved with outreach and enrollment initiatives. Ability to use intermediate functions and features of the MSOffice Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to navigate the internet, including usage of and the ability to successfully and accurately utilize web-based programs and applications. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical health record software. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, assignments and projects to meet established quality and time requirements. Ability to build trust and establish meaningful relationships with Latino community members. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job. Exposed to a normal office environment. Requires reading, comprehending, and editing materials. Requires clear and effective communication. |
