Position title:
CIDER Drone Education Academic Coordinator
Salary range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. A reasonable estimate for this position is $89,467-98,280.
Percent time:
Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start:
As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.
Position duration:
Initial appointment will be for two years, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Position description

The UCSC CITRIS Initiative for Drone Education and Research (CIDER) is seeking applications for the CIDER Education Coordinator. Working under the supervision of CITRIS Director, Rebecca Fenwick, the coordinator will work as part of the CIDER team on overall drone education program development. They will also serve as the lead facilitator for the extracurricular Pilot Training Program, which offers non-credit-bearing training opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and members of the public throughout the calendar year.

The position includes a focus on drone education and curriculum development, undergraduate student training, and grant writing. The CIDER team supports campus-wide academic and research drone efforts and activities and it supports intercampus program coordination. The team also provides drone and workforce development workshops for the community and our partners. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in drone field work, potentially in remote locations, and will be expected to stay up-to-date on the latest drone technologies applicable to the program.

Applicants with expertise in Drone/UAS development, application, use, education program management, and graduate-level scientific expertise are strongly encouraged to apply.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The selected candidate must be able to present a current FAA Remote Pilot Small unmanned Aircraft Systems Certification (Part 107) prior to employment.

The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)

  • A master's degree or higher (or equivalent foreign degree) in engineering, earth, environmental, or life sciences.
  • Two years or more of program management experience.
  • Experience in education programming and curriculum development.
  • Experience working with or training undergraduate students.

Additional qualifications (required at the time of appointment)

The selected candidate will be required to provide evidence they possess FAA Remote Pilot Small unmanned Aircraft Systems Certification (Part 107), before employment can begin.
