About the Position:

The Indirect Tax Manager will oversee all indirect tax activity including compliance, accounting, audits, research, and tax planning for approximately 28 states. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both sales and use and property tax. This position will report to the Indirect Tax Senior Manager.

What You'll Do:



  • Manage the preparation, review, and reconciliation of indirect tax filings which may include sales and use, property, gross receipts, severance, fuels tax and business license filings, along with payment processing and other compliance activity. This involves oversight of both professional staff and outside service providers.
  • Manage and coordinate indirect tax audits to minimize assessments and improve overall compliance, including gathering required documentation, responses to tax authorities, and resolution of audit findings.
  • Assess and improve current processes for compliance, reconciliations, and accruals, and overall indirect tax decisions in an effort to improve productivity, minimize risk, create value, and increase overall compliance efforts.
  • Provide well-organized oral or written summaries of technical positions and procedures to the Indirect Tax Senior Manager or internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor, research and communicate indirect tax law changes and their application, favorable or unfavorable, to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide indirect tax support in merger & acquisition due diligence and integration activity.
  • Guide, coach, develop, and motivate indirect tax professional staff.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Education. A bachelor's degree (preferably in Accounting or Finance). CPA or CMI is a plus.

Experience.



  • 10+ years of experience working in accounting, finance, or consulting environment, with at least 5 of those years specific to indirect tax.
  • Strong multi-state experience in indirect tax (preferably in mining and/or manufacturing).
  • Previous supervisory / team leader experience required.


Other Skills. Demonstrated ability to handle complex tax analyses and account analyses, perform advanced tax research, handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. Proven written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and confidence to question existing processes and drive change. Professional knowledge in a broad range of indirect tax processes, concepts, and tools.

Technology Skills. Highly proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Excel and Word, email, and internet functions. Oracle, Vertex, and any property management software experience a plus.

Integrity. Act with unyielding integrity and honesty in business transactions, promoting company policies and holding self and other employees accountable, keeping promises and commitments.
