Aon is Looking for an Experienced Director of Business Development

As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions supporting the Rewards Solutions practice within Aon! Rewards Solutions is part of the Human Capital Solutions business, and this role is within the Commercial Products group, including Aon and Radford Surveys and Services within North America. This position can be worked virtually from anywhere in the Continental United States.

The Director of Business Development is a leadership role responsible for spearheading Aon's data solutions RMCD product lead generation and business development sales functions. This role will be responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying and developing new business opportunities and expanding the RMCD brand presence. We are seeking a proactive and accomplished professional who has a proven ability to drive business growth and develop high-performance sales teams. The Director will collaborate closely with commercial leadership to set strategic objectives, identify business opportunities, and implement initiatives that foster balanced growth.

Your Impact as a Director of Business Development, Data Solutions

Job Responsibilities: Lead Generation
  • Develop and implement comprehensive lead generation strategies to identify and engage potential clients.
  • Generate lead through the Sales Development Representatives to provide to the Business Development Representatives
  • Utilize various channels, including digital marketing, social media, content marketing, and networking events, to generate high-quality leads.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling campaigns that attract and convert prospects.
Business Development Sales Function
  • Lead the business development sales team to pursue new business opportunities.
  • Identify and prioritize high-potential leads and prospects.
  • Develop customized sales approaches and solutions to meet client needs and secure new business.
  • Cultivate and uphold positive connections with key decision-makers and collaborators.
  • Support Business Development Representatives in transferring qualified leads to the appropriate sales role
  • Exceed sales targets and revenue objectives through effective planning and execution.
Team Leadership
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop a high-performing business development team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and implement development plans to enhance team capabilities.
  • Direct sales developing new clients across North American headquartered companies in the technology, life sciences, retail, manufacturing, and a variety of sub-industries.
  • Prospecting and outbound outreach to develop own pipeline for new business development is crucial to success; daily determination, perseverance, confidence, and organization required. Apply various strategies to identify and engage potential customers, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified leads.
  • Outbound Outreach: Initiate first contact with prospects through emails, phone calls, and social media, effectively communicating our value proposition.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key prospect accounts, understanding their needs and positioning our solutions to meet those needs.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain an organized and up-to-date pipeline, tracking all interactions and progress to ensure follow-ups are timely and effective.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the sales team to ensure seamless transition of qualified leads, providing detailed information to facilitate closing sales.
  • Target Achievement: Meet and exceed defined targets for lead generation, meetings booked, and revenue contribution.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends and competitive landscape to identify new opportunities and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on prospecting activities, pipeline status, and revenue outcomes for review by senior management.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to negotiating terms of sales and closing business.
  • Communicate efficiently with internal teams including sales colleagues, survey operations, order process and retention team, marketing, accounting, and consulting group when appropriate.
  • Active and continuous initiative to learn and maintain knowledge of all surveys, survey processes and value proposition for prospects and clients.
  • Understand Rewards Solutions Advisory expertise, coordinate on clients and prospects, and understand various broader Aon offerings to both inquire and listen for expanded engagements.
Required Experience:
  • At least 8 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record of driving significant revenue growth and achieving sales targets.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and go-to-market software including ZoomInfo.
  • Outstanding professional selling and account management skills, negotiation and closing via phone and online environment.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the sales process and adept at identifying client needs and providing solutions that meet and exceed their expectations.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify market trends and opportunities for growth.
  • Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and accountability.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities and overcome challenges.
  • Home office/workspace set up for uninterrupted daily execution of calls and video interactions; virtual work locations available for short or long-term depending on proximity to Aon office.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to establish and meet goals and daily priorities independently.
  • Ability to actively listen and act autonomously on a prospect/clients' questions, goals, and objectives to provide outstanding service.
  • Expertly seasoned verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player required - Internal cooperative sales team environment encourages goal-oriented collaboration among sales team members with focus on both individual and team achievement.
Preferred Experience:
  • Compensation related experience, products, services, and/or prior survey knowledge
  • Client-facing meetings/demonstrations.
  • History/track record of exceeding team new revenue sales goals.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or other related degree or equivalent

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $140,000 to $160,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Chicago, IL. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
