General Information:

The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) at James Madison University (JMU) invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2025. We seek a colleague who will be a dedicated teacher, active scholar, and effective mentor for students with diverse backgrounds, preparation, and career goals in Exercise Science. The successful candidate will join a strong and engaged faculty committed to inclusive excellence at one of the nation's outstanding public universities. Kinesiology faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:
* Teach undergraduate/graduate courses in our Exercise Science curriculum, with a particular emphasis in courses in one or more of the following areas: undergraduate and /or graduate exercise testing and prescription

* Contribute to JMU's General Education program by teaching courses in Lifetime Fitness and Wellness (KIN 100); https://www.jmu.edu/chbs/kinesiology/kin100.shtml)
* Participate in an active research agenda that engages graduate/undergraduate students in scholarship through the Department's Human Performance Laboratory (https://www.jmu.edu/chbs/kinesiology/facilities.shtml)
* Participate in service at the departmental, college, and university levels

Qualifications:

Required:
* Terminal degree (earned by the start date) from an accredited college/university in kinesiology, exercise science or a related field
* Knowledge and expertise to teach courses in the areas of Lifetime Fitness and Wellness, undergraduate and/or graduate exercise testing and prescription, as well as other content areas within the exercise science curriculum
* Demonstrated potential to teach, conduct research and engage in scholarly and creative activities, mentor graduate teaching assistants
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence

Preferred:
* University teaching experience
* Experience teaching early career students in a general education setting and large lecture classes
* Background and experience related to professional practice (e.g. experience in fitness, wellness, clinical, strength and conditioning, and/or research settings)
* A nationally recognized fitness or coaching certification (e.g. NSCA-CSCS, ACSM certification, RYT, etc.)
