Job Summary

The FIU Embrace department is currently seeking a Student Social Mentor to join their team of professionals. Duties to include:

  • Assume a primary leadership role, serving as role models for responsible behavior and personal integrity.
  • Exercise good judgment and model appropriate behavior for the FIU Embrace students
  • Develop strong facilitation, effective communication and other leadership skills by participating in all FIU Embrace trainings and meetings.
  • Communicate suggestions for programmatic improvement to the FIU Embrace Program Manager/Director, based upon experiences with FIU Embrace students
  • Encourage and prompt participation in social and recreational activities both on and off campus
  • Organize social and volunteer activities with students on and off campus.
  • Be able to attend social and volunteer activities on and off campus
  • Be knowledgeable about the FIU social calendar, clubs and other social activities on or off campus
  • Encourage and assist individuals in finding their own solutions
  • Refer freely to campus, and community resources
  • Have a familiarity and be knowledgeable of campus offices and services and appropriately direct students when necessary for assistance
  • Develop the capacity to listen and understand, and to be flexible and open minded in responding to student needs and concerns
  • Encourage and support all students to maintain their established schedule
  • Maintain regular communication with the FIU Embrace Program Manager and/or designated FIU Embrace staff regarding the FIU Embrace students' progress
  • Inform the designated FIU Embrace staff of any immediate concerns with its students
  • Attend and contribute to regularly scheduled one-on-one sessions and staff meetings.
  • Complete all required documentation within the established time frame
  • Record and enter programmatic data as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other mentors within the FIU Embrace program

  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week
  • At least one academic year remaining at FIU

  • Upon graduating, student employment must end.
