The expected hiring range for this position is: $119,200.00-$169,467.00.

ABOUT THE ROLE: Under minimal supervision, directs project tasks for the precise three-dimensional alignment and metrology aspects of accelerators, beam lines, detectors, specialty equipment, and infrastructure projects with large scope and physical dimension. Organize and maintain quality assurance programs for the installations. Analyzes potential resource requirements and act as liaison for communication and work requests between project tasks and the assigned metrology group. NOTE: The position is for a period of up to three (3) years, with the potential for extension considered on a two-year basis thereafter, and subject to continued funding. What your day-to-day as Quality Control Survey Lead at Fermilab will look like:
Manage the survey and quality assurance programs for the detector installation. Including layout and alignment of components, recording as-built/constructed data, and spot check quality control processes. Test new installations using survey and QA processes while checking technical details and making sure all required documentation is available. Evaluate proposals for new installations and developments to determine survey , alignment, and quality requirements. Participates in the development of schedules , and technical aspects of critical decision documentation of proposed installation. Review alignment, metrology and related work in coordination with LBNF/DUNE Installation team. Ensures adequate documentation is complete and updates procedures and practices for installation through planning (pre-activity meetings). Develop and maintain high accuracy medium and large-scale geodetic networks to meet positioning criteria of the LBNF/DUNE experiment installation. Evaluate technological advances in the applications of geodesy, alignment, and mapping, such as GPS and conventional survey, laser tracking interferometry, and photogrammetry for higher accuracy requirements. Develop and improves processes for data acquisition, quality control analyses, and data validation for database and archival requirements. Analyze resource requirements and acts as liaison for all communication and work requests between existing beam lines, experiments and the assigned metrology group. Direct project activities of junior staff and metrology teams. Help junior staff and cross-functional partners succeed by managing project work and quality standards. Recommends changes in procedures and instrumentation to improve effectiveness, quality and techniques of the installation. Prepare technical correspondence and reports, authors or co-authors scientific papers for publication or for presentation at technical meetings, conferences, and workshops. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Abide by and are responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Skills and Attributes for Success: Minimum Required Education and Experience: Bachelor of Metrology, Surveying, Engineering, or a related program with 7+ years of experience. Master of Geodesy with 5+ years of experience or a PhD with 3+ years of experience. In lieu of degree, 15+ years of relevant experience in surveying, alignment, or quality assurance fields, preferably at a particle physics laboratory. Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must have experience with field surveying techniques and best practices. Preferred to have experience with laser trackers and Spatial Analyzer software. Understanding of quality control and assurance procedures and processes. Work Arrangement: Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Lead, SD project location.
