Job Description Summary:

Draper is seeking a product engineer with experience in electronics manufacturing, mechanical, electro-mechanical or electro-optical assembly. The New Product Introduction Engineer works with the design and test team during program development through the prototype phase to ensure Design for Manufacturing/Assembly principals are applied and works towards a smooth transition to the production group.

The candidate will be responsible for reviewing engineering documentation and generating manufacturing documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures, travelers and other documents needed to support assembly. The role requires the candidate to support interactions between program subject matter experts and internal services and help develop plans for how to get from proof of concept through the prototype stage. The candidate will represent manufacturing in design and critical milestone reviews and involve necessary experts from internal services when risks are identified. This will include being called upon to act as a Subject Matter Expert as an independent reviewer in design and milestone reviews on other projects.

The NPI Engineer may be called upon lead Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) assessments and Process Failure Mode Analysis (PFMEA) to determine the progress of programs, identify possible risks and failure points, and propose preventative actions as required. They will also be responsible for transitioning assembly tasks to the production group and ensuring the necessary knowledge transfer occurs.

Duties/Responsibilities
* Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs to create product concepts.
* Gather materials or resources needed to design the product.
* Test the product for usability and safety.
* Oversee the manufacturing and production process to set standards
* Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction - contribute to requirements development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in requirements.
* Provide insight and suggest design or process modifications based on quantitative data or results.
* Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
* Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback.

Skills/Abilities
* Curiosity-driven approach to solving complex, customer-driven problems as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Collaborate and communicate effectively and openly with multi-disciplinary program team members, program leadership, and non-technical personnel.
* Be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to balance multiple competing tasks and demands.

Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field.

Experience
5-7 years experience in Product Engineering or related.
